Use of Bacillus thuringiensis toxins for control of the cotton pest Earias insulana (Boisd.) (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). [PDF]

open access: yesAppl Environ Microbiol, 2006
Thirteen of the most common lepidopteran-specific Cry proteins of Bacillus thuringiensis have been tested for their efficacy against newly hatched larvae of two populations of the spiny bollworm, Earias insulana. At a concentration of 100 μg of toxin per

Design of Polymer Carriers for Optimized Pheromone Release in Sustainable Insect Control Strategies. [PDF]

open access: yesAdv Sci (Weinh)
Semiochemicals play a major role in communication between insects and are used in sustainable plant protection. In this article, controlled release strategies of insect pheromones are reviewed to emphasize the large improvement potential for plant protection innovations with less damaging effects on biodiversity and, thus for reducing the need for ...

Interspecific sex attraction in Earias vittella and Earias insulana

open access: yesInternational Journal of Tropical Insect Science, 1992
Interspecific attraction between Earias vittella and Earias insulana was studied by conducting sex pheromone bioassays and by making visual observations on the behaviour of individual interspecific pairs. Olfactometer bioassays using virgin “calling” females revealed interspecific attraction amongst about 10% males.
