Reliability Engineering, 1983
It is first observed that assembly and maintenance procedures are often carried out correctly, though not always so, and hence the reliability of this operation at infinite time will be greater than zero. None of the standard statistical distributions fit this pattern.

Predicted Early Failure of Cardiac Pacemakers
Pacing and Clinical Electrophysiology, 1985This paper describes a study on pacemaker longevity carried out on 65 subjects using mostly the Telectronics model 171 and model 173 pacemakers and based on an analysis of pacing rate reduction as a function of time since implant. Three different modes of rundown were observed. The shortest predicted lifetime was 23 months for a model 171 unit.

Effect of Photofunctionalization on Early Implant Failure
The International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants, 2018This study retrospectively evaluated the effects of bone density, staging strategy, implant stability, healing process, implant length, surface type, and photofunctionalization on early implant failure.Consecutive study samples at Yokohama City University Hospital were analyzed for their early implant failure potentially influenced by patient ...

AbstractDevice failures can be classified as event‐dependent, time‐dependent, and a combination of the two, event/time‐dependent failures. Early life failure are dominated by event‐dependent failures, i.e. Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) failures, and mechanical failures (bonds, cracks, etc.) that result from a stress event.

Early Renal Failure in Fabry's Disease
American Journal of Kidney Diseases, 1983Two young males were observed with renal failure from Fabry's disease. These two patients had progressive decrease of renal function and required hemodialysis at ages 16 and 24. Diagnosis was confirmed by low plasma galactosidase levels and by skin and kidney biopsy.

Special session on early life failures
2017 IEEE 35th VLSI Test Symposium (VTS), 2017In recent years early life failures have caused several product recalls in semiconductor and automotive industries associated with a loss of billions of dollars. They can be traced back to various root-causes. In embedded or cyber-physical systems, the interaction with the environment and the behavior of the hardware/software interface are hard to ...

"Early Failures" in Arterial Reconstruction
Archives of Surgery, 1962Arterial reconstructive procedures may fail in the early postoperative period because of thrombosis. This complication is reported to occur in 4% to 29% of patients who undergo reconstruction of their aortoiliac or femoral arteries.1,2,4-6A careful evaluation of these reports and personal observation indicate that the thrombosis usually occurs within a

When the first edition of this book was written there were only two plausible candidate systems that might host planets in their stars’ habitable zone, Gliese 581 and Gliese 667C. Both systems hosted a number of super-terrans, whose numbers varied often by the month as radial velocity data was interpreted, reinterpreted, discarded, recovered—only for ...

Cyclic AMP and Early Contractile Failure
1983Cyclic AMP was measured in the isolated rat heart during anoxia in an attempt to demonstrate if this nucleotide is in any way related to the extent and rate of contractile failure. Isolated rat hearts were subjected to 15 min of normoxia followed by periods of between 1 and 300 sec of anoxia. Contractile force and its failure were monitored throughout.

Early Failures in Total Knee Arthroplasty
Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 2001Total knee arthroplasty is a predictable operation. Unfortunately, there is a subset of patients who do not do well and require revision surgery within the first 5 years. The purpose of the current study was to analyze the mechanisms of failure in patients who had revision surgery within 5 years of their index arthroplasty.
