Early Goal-Directed Therapy in Sepsis

open access: yes, 2017
This chapter provides a summary of a landmark study in surgical critical care. Does immediate recognition and management of sepsis improve outcomes? Starting with that question, it describes the basics of the study, including funding, year study began, year study was published, study location, who was studied, who was excluded, how many patients, study

EARLY GOAL-DIRECTED THERAPY IN TREATMENT OF PEDIATRIC SEPTIC SHOCK

open access: yesShock, 2010
In the whole world, around 29,000 children younger than 5 years die every day, and sepsis is the most common cause of death. Whereas in adult patients vasomotor paralysis represents the predominant cause of mortality, death in pediatric sepsis is associated with severe hypovolemia and low cardiac output.

Emergency nurses’ experiences of the implementation of early goal directed fluid resuscitation therapy in the management of sepsis: a qualitative study

open access: yesAustralasian Emergency Care, 2021
Background: Severe sepsis can lead to organ failure and death if immediate treatment, such as intravenous fluids and antibiotics, are not commenced within the first hour. Time - critical initiation of intravenous fluids which in other words is early goal

Early Goal-Directed Therapy

Critical Care Medicine, 2004
In a single center, randomized controlled trial, EGDT has been shown to reduce mortality by 16% in patients presenting to the emergency department with sepsis or septic shock. However, widespread implementation of EGDT will require a collaborative effort between multiple disciplines (physicians, nurses, allied health personnel) as well as multiple ...

The Physiology of Early Goal-Directed Therapy for Sepsis

Journal of Intensive Care Medicine, 2016
In 2001, Rivers and colleagues published a randomized controlled trial of early goal-directed therapy (EGDT) for the treatment of sepsis. More than a decade later, it remains a landmark achievement. The study proved the benefits of early aggressive treatment of sepsis. However, many questions remain about specific aspects of the complex EGDT algorithm.

Early goal-directed therapy versus “early”, “goal-directed” therapy

Intensive Care Medicine, 2015
Dear Editor, I read with great interest the systematic review and meta-analysis by the ARISE, ProCESS and ProMISe investigators [1] that showed no difference in mortality between early goal-directed therapy (EGDT) and usual care in resuscitating patients with septic shock. I admire their work and this is a great opportunity to speak directly with them.

Early Goal-directed Therapy: A Role for Echocardiography

International Journal of Perioperative Ultrasound and Applied Technologies, 2013
Early goal-directed therapy has been implemented now several years. Various haemodynamic monitoring systems have been forwarded. The choice should be governed by interchangeability and consistency of data and ease of use at the bedside. The role of echocardiography has not been discussed in this respect.
