Early Recognition of Toxic Megacolon
Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, 1987Increased amounts of small bowel gas are a frequent finding on plain abdominal films in toxic megacolon (TMC), but they may also be found in patients with severe colitis. We studied 69 consecutive patients with severe ulcerative colitis to evaluate whether an increased gas content of the small intestine may identify patients prone to TMC.

The earliest approaches concerned recognition within small populations, with the volume of data limited largely by the computational resources available then. As illustrated by Fig. 4.1, many sought to derive a human silhouette from an image and, as common in pattern recognition, and then to derive a description which can be associated with the ...

Early development of visual recognition
Biosystems, 2006The most important ability of the human vision is object recognition, yet it is exactly the less understood aspect of the vision system. Computational models have been helpful in progressing towards an explanation of this obscure cognitive ability, and today it is possible to conceive more refined models, thanks to the new availability of ...

Early Recognition of Parkinson's Disease
Hospital Practice, 1981With the advent of pharmacotherapy, management of Parkinson's disease shifted in large measure to the primary care physician. With this shift has come the opportunity for the recognition of premonitory signs and early detection of the disease. Although the progression of parkinsonism is probably relentless, early supportive care often can markedly ...

Early Recognition of Bronchogenic Carcinoma
Postgraduate Medicine, 1953Bronchogenic carcinoma is increasing more than any other cancer in the body. The unprecedented increase is probably due to the carcinogenic effect of cigarette smoking. Unfortunately, a long delay usually occurs between the onset of the disease and the diagnosis. All men past 40 years of age who have been heavy smokers should have x-rays of their chest

Introduction This thesis develops knowledge about tailored relapse prevention for adult patients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder in outpatient settings, by applying the strategy Early Recognition Method (ERM). Knowledge is developed regarding implementing ERM in community mental health care settings, how it impacts relapse and patient-perceived ...

Early Recognition of Brain Tumors
Postgraduate Medicine, 1964A few simple questions designed to elicit evidence of neurologic function can furnish valuable clues to brain tumor. An unusual taste or smell, brief blurring of vision or flashes of light, buzzing in the ears, weakness or numbness in the extremities, and difficulty in speaking are examples. Papilledema may be unaccompanied by headache, and vice versa.

Early Recognition of Childhood Deafness
Pediatrics, 1973Some parents of deaf and hard of hearing children are impatient with American medical care and not without justification. The enclosed "Hearing Checklist"1 was put together by a parent, working for the volunteer organization "Foundation for Hearing Research Inc." She gathered the material from several sources after hearing that deaf infants are ...

EARLY RECOGNITION OF CHEMICAL DEPENDENCE
Primary Care: Clinics in Office Practice, 1993Chemical dependence is a leading cause of morbidity and death in the United States. At least 20% of patients seen by primary care physicians in both the outpatient and inpatient setting are chemically dependent. Up to 90% of these patients go undiagnosed by their primary physicians.

EARLY RECOGNITION OF TUBERCULOSLS
Journal of the American Medical Association, 1912I know of no subject of such vast importance to both the physician and the laity as the early recognition of tuberculosis. When we consider the enormous loss of life, health and happiness due to tuberculosis—when we consider the fact that deaths from this disease are costing our country millions of dollars every year—when we consider the fact that ...
