When planet Earth was new [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
"It has taken billions of years for Earth to become the planet it is today. When Planet Earth Was New looks back to the very beginning, using a poetic approach grounded in scientific fact to give an overview of how the planet has changed over time: from ...

Redox evolutions of planetary mantle reservoirs constrained by titanium isotopes

open access: yesCommunications Earth & Environment
The oxygen fugacity (hereafter referred as fO2) of terrestrial planets is key in defining the outcome of planetary-scale differentiation and the planets’ potential habitability.

Surface Properties of Sediments at the 2014–2015 Holuhraun Lava Flow-field: Insights from Multiwavelength Radar

open access: yesThe Planetary Science Journal
Redistribution of sediments can lead to mantling of geologic features. This can obscure the original texture of lava flows, making it difficult to understand their emplacement conditions based on remote sensing data alone.

A Closed‐Loop Framework for Inverse Design: Dynamic Training and Intelligent Optimization for Heterostructured Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
To accelerate the inverse design of heterostructured metal matrix composites, a closed‐loop scientific machine learning framework integrates continual learning prediction with NSGA‐II‐PMCP optimization. The framework maps microstructural descriptors to strength, toughness, and modulus, expands high‐quality Pareto solutions, and guides experimentally ...

Rare‐Earth–Sulfur Surface Modification Enables SiC Ceramics for Low‐Frequency Electromagnetic Wave Absorption in Extreme Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By altering surface chemical bonds to prolong relaxation time and shift absorption to lower frequencies, SiC/rare earth–sulfur (RE─S, RE = La, Ce, Pr, Sm, Gd, Er) materials achieve excellent low‐frequency electromagnetic wave absorption under extreme conditions, offering a new direction for designing high‐performance SiC‐based absorbers.

The Response of Planetary Atmospheres to the Impact of Icy Comets. II. Exo-Earth Analogs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
The orbital regime of a terrestrial planet plays a significant role in shaping its atmospheric dynamics, climate, and hence potential habitability. The orbit is also likely to play a role in shaping the response of a planetary atmosphere to the influx of
