Earthquake Seismogram Denoising Across Time, Time‐Frequency, and Hybrid Domain Approaches

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract Deep learning earthquake signal denoisers commonly operate directly on waveform data or on time‐frequency representations, yet the impact of this design choice has not been systematically assessed under controlled conditions. Here we design and benchmark four comparable deep learning architectures to assess the effect of input data ...

Seven missing damaging earthquakes in Upper Valtiberina (Central Italy) in 16th-18th century: research strategies and historical sources

open access: yesAnnals of Geophysics, 2006
The Italian earthquake catalogue is considered to be fairly complete starting from the 17th century and for classes of earthquakes of magnitude greater than 5.5.

A DESCRIPTIVE CATALOGUE OF NEW ZEALAND EARTHQUAKES [PDF]

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, 1973
Abstract Over 300 New Zealand earthquakes felt between 1846 and 1854 are listed in chronological order, and assigned to four magnitude classes. Brief descriptive accounts include extracts from unpublished and otherwise inaccessible sources.

Adapting a Pretrained LLM to Rapidly Recover Earthquake Magnitude and Location

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Machine Learning and Computation, Volume 3, Issue 5, October 2026.
Abstract Determining earthquake magnitude and location through fast, automated methods is fundamental for seismic monitoring. Recent studies have shown that Large Language Models (LLMs) can operate as pattern‐recognition systems capable of handling novel domains and purely numerical tasks.

Consistency of seismic hazard estimates from a physics-based earthquake simulator: a case study in south-eastern Spain [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences
Estimating seismic hazard is crucial for enhancing societal resilience and risk mitigation strategies. Probabilistic Seismic Hazard Analysis (PSHA) is the current standard framework, traditionally relying on empirical earthquake rupture forecasts (ERFs ...

Durum Wheat cv. Svevo Reference Genome Rel.2.0: A Comprehensive Tool for Wheat Genomics

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 24, Issue 10, Page 5460-5479, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Advancements in plant genome sequencing and assembly have enabled the production of increasingly accurate and contiguous genome sequences. Here, we present the chromosome‐level assembly of the durum wheat (Triticum turgidum L. ssp. durum, cv. Svevo) reference genome produced using accurate long‐reads, optical mapping and Hi‐C. The new assembly

Evaluating the Economic Response to Japan's Earthquake [PDF]

open access: yes
This paper compares the 1995 Kobe earthquake with the more recent one in Tohoku. The impact of the recent earthquake on industrial production was much larger and long-lasting than that of the 1995 earthquake.

Card-Image Public Access Catalogues (CIPACs) : A Critical Consideration of a Cost-Effective Alternative to Full Retrospective Catalogue Conversion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
This dissertation investigates card-image public access catalogues (CIPACs) – online library catalogues based on databases of digitized catalogue cards and more or less sophisticated mechanisms for browsing or searching.

Probabilistic seismic hazard in terms of intensities for Bulgaria and Romania – updated hazard maps [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2008
Since 2007 Bulgaria and Romania are members of the European Union. All member states have to introduce the European earthquake building code EUROCODE 8 (EC 8) in the coming years.

Quantifying the Role of 3D Fault Geometry Complexities on Slow and Fast Earthquakes

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
Abstract Traditional models of slow slip events (SSEs) oversimplify fault geometry, although imaging shows subduction faults are segmented and complex. We examine how fault interactions control slip behavior using 3D quasi‐dynamic simulations of two parallel faults with uniform rate‐weakening friction accelerated by hierarchical matrices.
