Earthquakes and the Metamorphic Sole of the Tinos Ophiolite, Cyclades, Greece

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract We analyze deformation fabrics, compositions of melts, metamorphic temperatures, and paleopiezometric data beneath the Tsiknias Thrust, Tinos, Greece, which formed part of the plate boundary that, in Late‐Cretaceous time, absorbed convergence between Africa and Europe associated with final closure of the Vardar Ocean.

Full Waveform Modeling of Bridgmanite Fabric‐Induced Seismic Discontinuities in the Mid‐Mantle: Implications for Double Underside Reflections Beneath Subduction Zones

open access: yesGeochemistry, Geophysics, Geosystems, Volume 27, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Mid‐mantle (660–2,000 km) seismic observations are commonly attributed to thermo‐chemical heterogeneities or phase transitions, yet many observed features remain difficult to reconcile with these mechanisms alone. It has been shown that the depth‐dependent behavior of bridgmanite deformation generates a strain‐induced seismic discontinuity ...

Developing an Early Childhood Environmental Health Vulnerability Index to Assess Cumulative Health Impacts Across Contiguous US

open access: yesGeoHealth, Volume 10, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Young children (birth to age five) are uniquely vulnerable to environmental hazards due to their higher exposure relative to body weight, rapid physiological and neurological development, and strong reliance on caregivers for protection and care.

Key Parameters for the Ionospheric Detection of Tsunamis From the 29 July 2025 Kamchatka Event

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract It has been demonstrated that tsunamis generate internal gravity waves (GWs) detectable in the ionosphere within 20–60 min after their generation at the ocean surface. Despite numerous simulation and observation studies on ionospheric signatures of tsunamis, the detection of Co‐tsunamic Ionospheric Disturbances (CTIDs) and distinguishing them ...

Pervasively Thin Anatolian Lithosphere With Elevated Upper Mantle Temperatures in the East: Insights From Bayesian Thermo‐Compositional Inversion

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 10, October 2026.
Abstract Uplift and widespread Late Miocene‐present magmatism in Anatolia are commonly attributed to lithospheric thinning, possibly facilitated by the arrival of hot mantle plume material. There are various lines of evidence for thin present‐day lithosphere, but the spatial extent and degree of lithospheric thinning and the underlying mantle ...
