Near Real-Time Detection and Moment Tensor Inversion of the 11 May 2022, Dharchula Earthquake

open access: yesGeoHazards, 2023
On 11 May 2022, an earthquake of Mw 5.2 occurred in the Dharchula region of Uttarakhand Himalayas, India. The Uttarakhand State Earthquake Early Warning System (UEEWS) detected and transmitted the warning within 11.61 s from the origin time, taking only ...

The Urban Seismic Observatory of Catania (Italy): A Real-Time Seismic Monitoring at Urban Scale

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2022
We describe the first dense real-time urban seismic–accelerometric network in Italy, named OSU-CT, located in the historic center of Catania. The city lies in the region with the greatest danger, vulnerability, and earthquake exposure in the entire ...

Limiting the effects of earthquakes on gravitational-wave interferometers

open access: yes, 2017
Ground-based gravitational wave interferometers such as the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory (LIGO) are susceptible to high-magnitude teleseismic events, which can interrupt their operation in science mode and significantly reduce the ...

GPS source solution of the 2004 Parkfield earthquake [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We compute a series of finite-source parameter inversions of the fault rupture of the 2004 Parkfield earthquake based on 1 Hz GPS records only. We confirm that some of the co-seismic slip at shallow depth (

From Green Governance to Biodiversity Strategy: The Role of Environmentally Experienced Directors in Chinese Firms

open access: yesBusiness Strategy and the Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study investigates how directors with environmental protection (EP) backgrounds influence corporate biodiversity concern (BIO) among Chinese A‐share listed firms from 2008 to 2023. Drawing on Upper Echelons Theory, we argue that directors' environmental expertise shapes firms' biodiversity strategies.

An Overview of Traditional and Next-Generation Earthquake Early Warning Systems

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Research in Natural and Applied Sciences
The Earthquake Early Warning System generates rapid and effective warnings after detecting an earthquake, before the arrival of destructive waves to the areas that may be affected. In this way, it is aimed to minimize the loss of life and property.

Geodetic Observations of Weak Determinism in Rupture Evolution of Large Earthquakes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The moment evolution of large earthquakes is a subject of fundamental interest to both basic and applied seismology. Specifically, an open problem is when in the rupture process a large earthquake exhibits features dissimilar from those of a lesser ...

Rockburst prediction based on data preprocessing and hyperband‐RNN‐DNN

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
A data preprocessing workflow is proposed to address challenges in rockburst data analysis. Coupled algorithms preprocess the data set, and hyperband optimization is used to enhance RNN performance. Results show that preprocessing improves accuracy, while dense layers enhance model stability and prediction performance.
