Effect of the 32nd-year Soil Tillage and Nitrogen Fertilization on the Population and Biomass of Earthworm under Zea mays L.

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Soils, 2021
The abundance and biomass of earthworms are affected by soil tillage and fertilization. This research aimed to study long-term 32nd-year soil tillage and nitrogen fertilization on the population and biomass of earthworms under Zea mays L.

Life history of Monocystis parasites and genetic diversity of their hosts, the invasive Amynthas earthworms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Monocystis is a parasites in the phylum Apicomplexa that infects nearly 100% of earthworms; however, the parasites have low survivorship, low production of transmissible gametocysts, and seemingly lack schizogony.

A Worm‐Inspired Origami Robot with Multimodal Locomotion for Adaptive Mobility in Complex Pipeline Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An origami worm‐inspired robot achieves multimodal locomotion in confined pipelines through mechatronic integration that embeds actuation, control, and communication within each origami module. Large, reversible configuration and dimensional changes enable 25 gaits synthesized by a unified framework across peristaltic, inchworm, and wheel‐rolling modes

ELEMENTAL ANALYSIS ON THE NEW SPECIES OF EARTHWORM FROM ORISSA [PDF]

open access: yesExploratory Animal and Medical Research, 2020
Earthworms are natural tillers of the soil and are known as the farmer’s friends. The earthworm physiology is capable of combating pollution and pathogens and is therefore worth exploring.

Long-term effects of cropping systems on the earthworm population in a loam soil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Six cropping systems, ranging from conventional arable without livestock to organic livestock farming dominated by ley, have been compared in 1990 and 2004 in SE Norway. Ley in the crop rotation increased density and biomass of earthworms and channels in

Ethical and Frugal Approaches to Animal Experimentation in Bioelectronics and Neural Engineering—An Invertebrate Renaissance?

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
Invertebrates are the classic neuroscience models and should make a comeback. Invertebrate organisms can be a more ethical and cost‐effective way to move bioelectronics research forward more rapidly. ABSTRACT The accelerating development of bioelectronic neural interfaces has brought increased attention to ethical considerations surrounding in vivo ...

Influences of earthworm activity and mucus on Cd phytoremediation based on harvesting different leaf types of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea).

open access: yesPLoS ONE
To explore cost-effective and efficient phytoremediation strategies, this study investigated the distinct roles of earthworm activity and mucus in enhancing Cd phytoextraction from soils contaminated by Festuca arundinacea, focusing on the comparative ...

Soil BON Earthworm - A global initiative on earthworm distribution, traits, and spatiotemporal diversity patterns

open access: yesSoil Organisms
Recent research on earthworms has shed light on their global distribution, with high alpha richness in temperate zones and high beta diversity in tropical areas. Climate and agricultural practices, notably plowing and conservation methods, were shown to

Self‐Sensing Artificial‐Muscle‐Empowered Humanlike Perception, Interaction, and Positioning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
The proposed self‐sensorized artificial muscle (SSAM) can sense its length change as small as 0.01 mm via a seamlessly integrated multi‐segment induction coil. The SSAM provides accurate length information regardless of its loadings, driving pressure, or muscle design, adequate for robust data‐driven feedback control.
