SpatialESD: Spatial Ensemble Domain Detection in Spatial Transcriptomics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Spatial transcriptomics (ST) measures gene expression while preserving spatial context within tissues. One of the key tasks in ST analysis is spatial domain detection, which remains challenging due to the complex structure of ST data and the varying performance of individual clustering methods. To address this, we propose SpatialESD, a Spatial

A 700 year record of Southern Hemisphere extratropical climate variability [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Annually dated ice cores from West and East Antarctica provide proxies for past changes in atmospheric circulation over Antarctica and portions of the Southern Ocean, temperature in coastal West and East Antarctica, and the frequency of South Polar ...

Structural Basis of the Membrane Association by the Conserved RocS Membrane‐Targeting Sequence in Streptococcus

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chromosome segregation in Streptococcus pneumoniae depends on RocS, a bitopic protein whose membrane‐anchoring mechanisms were unclear. Using NMR and AFM, this study reveals that the widely conserved RocS anchor binds to membranes via a conserved kink‐helix motif which inserts into lipid nanodomains.

Black carbon physical and optical properties across northern India during pre-monsoon and monsoon seasons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Black carbon (BC) is known to have major impacts on both climate and human health and is therefore of global importance, particularly in regions close to large populations that have strong sources.

A Genomic Catalog of Migratory Microbiomes from Wild Birds across China's Habitats

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Migratory birds play an important role in the spread of antimicrobial resistance (AMR); however, gaps in surveillance data from vital regions along migratory flyways across China limit the detection of emergent threats. Here, we assembled 340 metagenomes from 52 bird species covering 11 provincial administrative districts in China, presenting ...

Opium for the Masses: How Foreign Free Media Can Stabilize Authoritarian Regimes [PDF]

open access: yes
A common claim in the democratization literature is that foreign free media undermine authoritarian rule. No reliable micro-level evidence on this topic exists, however, since independent survey research is rarely possible in authoritarian regimes and ...

Is Vostok lake in steady state? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Stable-isotope (D and 18O) data from the Vostok (East Antarctica) ice core are used to explore whether or not subglacial Vostok lake is in isotopic steady state. A simple box model shows that the lake is likely to be in steady state on time-scales of the
