Response of Boreal Winter Atmospheric Blocking to Topographic Forcing Induced by the Tibetan–Iranian Plateau

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Employing orographic perturbation experiments from a state‐of‐the‐art climate model, this study investigates the topographic forcing associated with the Tibetan–Iranian Plateau (TIP) in modulating Northern Hemisphere boreal winter blocking frequency.

The Tropical Indo‐Pacific and North Atlantic Precursors for the Interannual Variation of Extreme Humid‐heat Days in the Yangtze River Basin

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Extreme humid‐heat events pose a major hazard across the Yangtze River Basin (YRB), yet their underlying mechanisms and seasonal predictability remain insufficiently understood. Here, using observational diagnostics and coupled model experiments, we identify three independent drivers in the tropical Indo‐Pacific and subtropical North Atlantic ...

Regulatory Factors of the Morning Peak of Summer Regional Precipitation Events Over the Middle and Lower Yangtze River Basin, China

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract The diurnal variation of regional precipitation events (RPE) over the Middle and Lower Yangtze River Basin (MLYRB) significantly affects human activities and serves as a key reference for weather forecasting. Here, the diurnal variation of summer RPE over MLYRB under two monsoonal synoptic types and their regulatory factors have been addressed.

Modeling the time-dependent response of the Asian summer monsoon to obliquity forcing in a coupled GCM a PHASEMAP sensitivity experiment

open access: yes, 2011
To study the time-dependent response of the Asian summer monsoon to obliquity forcing, we analyze a 284,000-year long transient simulation produced by a fully coupled global climate model (GCM) using a new phase mapping (PHASEMAP) approach. Here we focus

Sensitivity of East Asian Meso‐β‐Scale Convective Systems Identification to Microphysical Processes in a Convection‐Permitting Model

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract Mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) are key contributors to heavy rainfall in the East Asian summer monsoon, yet their statistics and internal structure remain difficult to simulate, even in convection‐permitting models (CPMs). This study evaluates the performance of the newly developed Unified Forecast System Double‐Moment microphysics scheme

Mechanisms of the QBO Influence on the Tropical Troposphere: Modulation by ENSO Conditions

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, Volume 131, Issue 13, 16 July 2026.
Abstract The Quasi‐Biennial Oscillation (QBO) is the dominant mode of tropical stratospheric variability that can influence tropospheric circulation and convection. El Niño‐Southern Oscillation (ENSO), which is the primary source of interannual variability in the tropical troposphere, can modulate both the QBO and its impact on the tropical troposphere.

Temporal Activity and Co‐Occurrence Patterns of Sympatric Wild Ungulates in Baotianman, China

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 7, July 2026.
Leveraging camera‐trap data, we investigated the seasonal daily activity patterns of five sympatric wild ungulates to assess temporal niche differentiation as a key coexistence mechanism. Comparative analyses revealed significant seasonal differentiation in daily rhythms among these species.

High-resolution simulation of the Asian Monsoon for the mid-Holocene and Last Glacial Maximum

open access: yes, 2005
The change in the Asian monsoon during the mid-Holocene (6,000 years before present (ka)) and Last Glacial Maximum (20 ka) is simulated by a high-resolution climate model.

Hydroclimatic Controls on Flash Drought Development in Northeast Asia: Roles of Atmospheric Demand and Water Availability

open access: yesHydrological Processes, Volume 40, Issue 7, July 2026.
Flash drought development across Northeast Asia is governed by distinct hydroclimatic controls linked to atmospheric demand and water availability. Using the Standardized Evaporative Stress Ratio framework, this study classifies flash drought events into water‐availability‐driven and demand‐driven mechanisms.

Unusual Enhancement of Stratospheric Ozone Observed Over the North Bay of Bengal: Results Inferred From NetRAD‐ASMA Campaigns‐2024

open access: yesEarth and Space Science, Volume 13, Issue 7, July 2026.
Abstract The present study examines the roles of advection and air compression in enhancing the stratospheric ozone layer over the North Bay of Bengal during winter. The most significant and novel observation reported is an increase in the stratospheric ozone layer between 21 and 23 km, with ozone partial pressure approximately 50 nbar higher than the ...
