Interdecadal variability of the East Asian summer monsoon in an AGCM

Advances in Atmospheric Sciences, 2007
It is well known that significant interdecadal variation of the East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) occurred around the end of the 1970s. Whether these variations can be attributed to the evolution of global sea surface temperature (SST) and sea ice concentration distribution is investigated with an atmospheric general circulation model (AGCM).

Simulation of east Asian summer monsoon with IAP CGCM

Advances in Atmospheric Sciences, 1997
East Asian summer monsoon simulated by a coupled ocean-atmosphere general circulation model developed in the Institute of Atmospheric Physics (IAP CGCM) is analyzed. The precipitation, low-level streamline field, sea level pressure, low-level temperature and mixing ratio are compared with the observed ones respectively.

Decoupling of the East Asian summer monsoon and Indian summer monsoon between 20 and 17 ka

Quaternary Research, 2014
AbstractMarine Oxygen Isotope Stage (MIS) 2, with its profound environmental and climatic changes from before the last glacial maximum (LGM) to the last deglaciation, is an ideal period for understanding the evolution of the East Asian summer monsoon (EASM) and Indian summer monsoon (ISM), two Asian monsoon sub-systems.

Response of Aerosol Direct Radiative Effect to the East Asian Summer Monsoon

IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Letters, 2015
Asian summer monsoon and atmospheric aerosol simultaneously influence the climate in the East Asian region. However, substantial uncertainties exist in the current understanding of the interactions between monsoon and aerosol and their combined effects.

The instability of the East Asian summer monsoon–ENSO relations

Advances in Atmospheric Sciences, 2002
The instability in the relation between the East Asian summer monsoon and the ENSO cycle in the long–term variation is found through this research. By instability, we mean that high inter–relation exists in some periods but low inter–relation may appear in some other periods.

80a—Oscillation of Summer Rainfall over the East Part of China and East—Asian Summer Monsoon

Advances in Atmospheric Sciences, 2001
Relationship between summer rainfall over the east part of China and East-Asian Summer Monsoon (EASM) was studied based on the summer rainfall grade data set from 1470 to 1999 and the rain gauge data set from 1951 to 1999 over the east part of China, and sea level pressure (SLP) data for the period of 1871–2000.

Relationship between East Asian winter monsoon and summer monsoon

The Asia monsoon plays a key effect on global atmospheric circulation and climate world wide. The East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM), an important component of Asian monsoon system, is the strongest winter monsoon in global monsoon system. Its variation may not only control the local weather and climate in East Asia but also exert a strong impact on the ...

The effects of land-surface characteristics on the East Asian summer monsoon

Climate Dynamics, 2001
The Community Climate Model version 2 (CCM2) of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) was used to investigate the effects of the land-surface characteristics on the East Asian summer monsoon. Four numerical experiments were performed in this study.

Development of systematic errors in the East Asian summer monsoon

Mean-state errors in the simulation of the Asian summer monsoon are common to many CMIP6 climate models, with some biases persisting over several generations of models.  In this work, we use the Met Office Unified Model (MetUM) as an example to understand the physical processes involved in the emerged circulation patterns.  We focus ...
