Phytosociological study of steppe vegetation in east Kazakhstan

AbstractFollowing phytosociological methods, vegetation data were collected from 74 stands in the steppe area of east Kazakhstan, including Almaty, Pavlodar and Semipalatinsk Provinces. Detrended correspondence analysis (DCA) was used to extract the main compositional gradients of each of the 74 stands.

ON May 1, 1969 a seismic event occurred in East Kazakhstan which, on the widely accepted body wave magnitude (mb): surface wave magnitude (Ms) criterion1,2, would be identified as an explosion; mb = 4.9 and Ms = 2.4 (ref. 3), giving a difference of 2.5, which is typical of explosive sources.
