First Engineering Commissioning of EAST Tokamak

Plasma Science and Technology, 2006
Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) is the first fully superconducting tokamak. The first commissioning started on Feb. 1st of 2006 and finished on March 30th of 2006 at the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. It consists of leakage testing at both room temperature and low temperature, pumping down, cooling down ...

The Procedure for Assembling the EAST Tokamak

Plasma Science and Technology, 2005
Due to the complicated constitution and high precision requirements of the EAST superconducting tokamak, a meticulous assembling procedure and measurement scheme must be established. The big size and mass of the EAST machine's components and complicated configuration with tight installation tolerances call for a highly careful assembling procedure. The

On plasma vertical stabilization at EAST tokamak

2017 IEEE Conference on Control Technology and Applications (CCTA), 2017
In this paper we discuss the problem of plasma vertical stabilization at the EAST tokamak. By exploiting a plasma/circuit linearized model, we show that the plant cannot be strongly stabilized by using the in-vessel coils and a singleinput-single-output controller that feeds back only the plasma vertical speed z p (i.e. without integral action on z p )

Equilibrium properties on the EAST superconducting tokamak

Journal of Plasma Physics, 2009
AbstractThe Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) has a major radius of R0 = 1.75 m and a midplane halfwidth of 0.5 m. It has been operated with a toroidal magnetic field B0 = 2 T and Ip ≤ 500 kA. The evolution of the plasma equilibrium is analysed between discharges by Equilibrium Fitting Code (EFIT).

Distributed Synchronization Time System on EAST Tokamak

2007 15th IEEE-NPSS Real-Time Conference, 2007
A key item for the EAST distributing control system (EASTDCS) was the synchronization, the EASTDCS required the synchronized with an accuracy of < 1 mus. A distributed synchronization time system (DSTS) was setup, which was based on the AVR microcontroller ATmegal28 and the embedded RTOS Nut/OS, in 2006.

Online Plasma Shape Reconstruction for EAST Tokamak

Plasma Science and Technology, 2010
An online plasma shape reconstruction, based on the offline version of the EFIT code and MPI library, can be carried out between two adjacent shots in EAST. It combines online data acquisition, parallel calculation, and data storage together. The program on the master node of the cluster detects the termination of the discharge promptly, reads ...

Modelling of First Discharge in EAST Tokamak

Plasma Science and Technology, 2008
An 1.5D equilibrium evolution code was used to model the time evolution of the first ohmic discharges in the EAST experiment. Good agreement between the simulation and the experimental results was obtained in the plasma current, major radius, electron temperature, loop voltage and poloidal field (PF) current for the entire duration of the discharge ...

Runaway Electron Measurements in the EAST Tokamak

Contributions to Plasma Physics, 2010
AbstractAn experimental study of runaway electrons in the EAST tokamak has been performed by a recently developed multi‐channel hard x‐ray diagnostics based on NaI(TL) scintillator detectors. It is found that in the current quench phase, the inductive loop voltage plays an important role in the generation of runaway electrons.

Status of ECRH project on EAST Tokamak

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2014
A 140GHz electron cyclotron resonance heating and current drive (EC H&CD) project for EAST Tokamak is launched in 2011 with a total power of 4MW and pulse length of 100 s. The main objectives of the system are to provide central H&CD, assist start-up and control of MHD activities.
