Spatial and Temporal Patterns of Extreme Hourly Rainfall in the Hawaiian Islands

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The extreme rainfall trends in Hawaiʻi were revealed by hourly rainfall data: Across islands, Kauaʻi and Hawaiʻi Island had larger events at a return period. Annual maximum series of 15 gauges showed significant positive trends. While extreme rainfall trends show increases or decreases regionally, the trends varied with rainfall duration.

Frequent, Intense and Prolonged Human‐Perceived Heat Waves Over the Arabian Peninsula in Recent Decades

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
The spatial distribution of WBGT exhibits a widespread and significant warming trend across the Arabian Peninsula (AP), with, particularly, strong increases observed over the central and northern inland and eastern coastal regions of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar, where trends exceed ~0.25°C decade−1.

Low‐Intensity Precipitation Dominates Peninsular Spain (1961–2022)

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Spatial analysis across Spain shows a shift in precipitation regimes (1961–2022) toward more frequent low‐intensity precipitation and reduced high‐intensity events, with localised increases in heavy precipitation along some coastal areas. This redistribution—captured through changes in precipitation frequency (RF) and volumetric contribution (RC ...

Multi‐Timescale Drought Evolution in Greece (1960–2022) From Station‐Based SPI and SPEI

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Using homogenized data from 67 HNMS stations in Greece (1960–2022), we calculated SPI and SPEI at 1–12‐month scales to characterize meteorological to hydrological drought. We quantified the network‐based spatial extent of drought, compared SPI and SPEI drought signals, and tested changes with autocorrelation‐robust Mann–Kendall trends and Pettitt ...
