Density‐Dependent Harvest Modeling for the Eastern Wild Turkey

Journal of Wildlife Management, 2008
Abstract Many current wild turkey ( Meleagris gallopavo ) harvest models assume density‐independent population dynamics. We developed an alternative model incorporating both nonlinear density‐dependence and stochastic density‐independent effects on wild turkey populations.

Motivations and support for regulations: a typology of eastern wild turkey hunters

Human Dimensions of Wildlife, 2018
To determine the diverse motivations of eastern wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo) hunters, a self-administered questionnaire was developed and mailed to a sample of 5,000 licensed turkey hunters in Tennessee (response rate = 36%). A cluster analysis yielded three types of respondents in terms of their hunting motivations: social harvesters (44 ...

Cestodes from the Eastern Wild Turkey

The Journal of Parasitology, 1931
In a collection of cestodes from hosts at one time in the Philadelphia Gardens are three vials of material from the Eastern Wild Turkey. These worms are of particular interest because of the close relationship existing between the Eastern Wild Turkey and the domestic turkey, and because of the fact that although one of the three species (Metroliasthes ...

Mycoplasma Gallopavonis in Eastern Wild Turkeys

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1992
Serum samples and tracheal cultures were collected from eastern wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo sylvestris) trapped for relocation in South Carolina (USA) during 1985 to 1990. Sera were tested for Mycoplasma gallisepticum and M. synoviae by the rapid plate agglutination and hemagglutination inhibition tests and were found to be negative.

Brood Habitat Use by Eastern Wild Turkeys in Eastern Texas

The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1989
We used radio telemetry to study habitat use by eastern wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris) females with broods on intensively managed pine (Pinus spp.) forest land in eastern Texas in 1980 and 1981. We sampled habitat at 550 locations for 9 females with broods 1-114 days old and 164 randomly located plots.

AN INVESTIGATION OF THE PERSISTENCE OF MYCOPLASMA GALLISEPTICUM IN AN EASTERN POPULATION OF WILD TURKEYS

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1991
Mycoplasma gallisepticum infection had been confirmed by culture and serology among wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo) in close association with domestic fowl on Cumberland Island, Georgia (USA) in 1980. In 1988, wild turkeys were surveyed by serologic and cultural methods for evidence of M. gallisepticum.

Reproduction of Eastern Wild Turkeys in Virginia and West Virginia

The Journal of Wildlife Management, 2001
Knowledge of reproductive parameters and assessment of the relative importance of factors affecting reproductive success are essential for effective management of eastern wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris). We determined reproductive parameters of 599 radiomarked hens (293 for >1 yr), and the effects of age, year, region, condition (winter ...
