Eastern wild turkey demography: Sensitivity of vital rates between landscapes

The Journal of Wildlife Management, 2014
ABSTRACTThe eastern wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris) is an economically important upland game bird that has been successfully reintroduced in Wisconsin, USA, and now occurs across the entire state. Although populations have become relatively stable across much of the state, recent concerns have been expressed regarding a plateau in total ...

Cestodes from the Eastern Wild Turkey

The Journal of Parasitology, 1931
In a collection of cestodes from hosts at one time in the Philadelphia Gardens are three vials of material from the Eastern Wild Turkey. These worms are of particular interest because of the close relationship existing between the Eastern Wild Turkey and the domestic turkey, and because of the fact that although one of the three species (Metroliasthes ...

Mycoplasma Gallopavonis in Eastern Wild Turkeys

Journal of Wildlife Diseases, 1992
Serum samples and tracheal cultures were collected from eastern wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo sylvestris) trapped for relocation in South Carolina (USA) during 1985 to 1990. Sera were tested for Mycoplasma gallisepticum and M. synoviae by the rapid plate agglutination and hemagglutination inhibition tests and were found to be negative.

Brood Habitat Use by Eastern Wild Turkeys in Eastern Texas

The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1989
We used radio telemetry to study habitat use by eastern wild turkey (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris) females with broods on intensively managed pine (Pinus spp.) forest land in eastern Texas in 1980 and 1981. We sampled habitat at 550 locations for 9 females with broods 1-114 days old and 164 randomly located plots.

Winter Roost Site Characteristics of Eastern Wild Turkeys

The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1988
Nine winter roost sites used by Meleagris gallopavo silvestris in Rhode Island were compared to 9 random plots. Roost sites were closer to open water than random plots (mean 39.8±19.6 vs 280.9±114.2m). White pine Pinus strobus and oaks Quercus spp., comprised 43.7 and 24.2%, respectively, of trees within roost sites and 24.3 and 46.7%, respectively, of

Reproductive Ecology of Eastern Wild Turkeys in Southwestern Wisconsin

The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1998
Developing sound harvest strategies for wild turkey populations requires geographically specific information on population dynamics. The absence of this information prompted us to investigate the reproductive ecology of a hunted population of eastern wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris) in southwestern Wisconsin during 1989-92.
