Spatial and temporal variation in survival of female wild turkeys

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
We monitored 370 female wild turkeys across North Carolina's 3 ecoregions from 2020‐2022 to understand factors influencing their survival. Female survival varied by ecoregion and behavior state, with the incubation period having the lowest survival rates. None of the land cover variables affected survival.

Stable Carbon and Nitrogen Isotope Analysis Explores Diverse Domestic Goose Management Practices in Medieval and Postmedieval Russia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Osteoarchaeology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Studying goose domestication through archaeological finds has been challenging due to the similar skeletal morphology of the European domestic goose and its wild progenitor, the greylag goose (Anser anser). We analyzed stable carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) isotopes from bone collagen of subfossil domestic and potentially domestic geese to ...

APPLICATION OF PATREC MODELING TO WILD TURKEY MANAGEMENT IN MISSOURI1

open access: yesWildlife Society Bulletin, 1985
: The ability to quantify the effects of habitat manipulation on wild turkey populations is imperative in developing management programs. Predictive PATREC models for eastern wild turkeys (Meleagris gallopavo silvestris) are being constructed in Missouri

Prospecting during egg laying informs incubation recess movements of eastern wild turkeys

open access: yesMovement Ecology, 2023
Abstract Background Central place foragers must acquire resources and return to the central location after foraging bouts. During the egg laying (hereafter laying) period, females become constrained to a nesting location, and it is postulated that females familiarize themselves with resources available within their incubation ranges ...
