Microstructural Evolution and Vacancy Defect Formation in Mn–Mo–Ni RPV Steel Under Low Cycle Fatigue: Insights From EBSD and PALS

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐cycle fatigue damage in Mn–Mo–Ni reactor pressure vessel steel is examined using a combined electron backscatter diffraction and positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy approach. The study correlates texture evolution, dislocation substructure development, and vacancy‐type defect formation across uniform, necked, and fracture regions, providing

Application of electron backscattered diffraction to solving petrological problems on example of ultramafic rocks [PDF]

open access: yesМинералогия
Electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) is a modern high-precision method for studying the microstructural features of a wide range of crystalline materials. This paper examines EBSD application for natural ultramafic rocks including surface preparation,

Effects of the Growth Rate on the High-temperature Tensile Properties and Micro-organization of Directionally Solidified Ti-44Al-9Nb-1Cr-0.2W-0.2Y Alloys

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2023
In this experiment, Ti-44Al-9Nb-1Cr-0.2W-0.2Y alloy was prepared by the directional solidification method. The effect of different growth rates on tensile properties and microstructure orientation at high temperature was studied.

EBSD microcharacterization. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
(a) An EBSD orientation map of a cross section through the Vs-1 eggshell, with the outer surface of the eggshell at the top of the image and non-indexed regions marked in black. The colour scheme relates to the orientation of the calcite crystal lattice,

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Low‐Angle Grain Boundaries and Re‐Segregation in Single‐Crystalline Ni‐Base Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that Re‐segregation at low‐angle grain boundaries (LAGBs) in Ni‐base superalloys is influenced by misorientation angle. Advanced microscopy and atom probe tomography reveal that higher misorientation angles increases Re‐segregation.

Electrochemical Behaviour of Textured Beta C Titanium Alloy in 3.5% NaCl Solution [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Metallurgy and Materials
The corrosion behaviour of a thermo-mechanically treated Beta C titanium alloy in a 3.5 wt% NaCl solution was investigated in this study. Thermomechanical processing prejudges titanium alloys to improve corrosion properties.

Pyramidal Structures on Yttria‐Stabilized Zirconia after High Temperature Exposure at 1500°C: New Features on an Old Material

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
New features on yttria‐stabilized zirconia after exposure at 1500°C: Newly discovered pyramidal structures on an old material. After exposure at 1550°C on the cross section of YSZ new features, namely pyramidal structures are discovered. These structures grow with time, increase in numbers, appear as singularities, are often arranged in strings, and ...

Round robin crystal orientation measurement using EBSD for damage assessment

open access: yesMechanical Engineering Journal, 2016
Crystal orientations of creep damaged Type 316 stainless steel were measured by 10 organizations using the same specimens, passed in a round robin, in order to investigate the scatter in material damage assessment using the electron backscatter ...

Ca-induced Plasticity in Magnesium Alloy: EBSD Measurements and VPSC Calculations

open access: yesCrystals, 2020
In the present work, Ca-induced plasticity of AZ31 magnesium alloy was studied using electron backscattered diffraction (EBSD) measurements supported by viscoplastic self-consistent (VPSC) calculations.
