Optimal Design of Tensile Steel Members by Improving the Regulations of Codes Regarding the Correction of Shear Lag [PDF]

open access: yesپژوهش‌های زیرساخت‌های عمرانی, 2023
The non-uniform stress distribution that occurs in a tension member adjacent to a connection, in which all elements of the cross section are not directly connected, is commonly referred to as the shear lag effect.

Self-similar velocity and solid fraction profiles in silos with eccentrically located outlets

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids, 2022
We examine the gravity-induced flow of dry and cohesionless granular media through an outlet placed eccentrically in a planar silo, employing computations based on a soft-sphere discrete element method. The vertical velocity profiles, measured at the outlet, are self-similar when the eccentric position of an outlet is given in terms of the smallest gap

A Self-Gravitating Exoring Around J1407b and Implications for In-Situ Exomoon Formation

open access: yesFrontiers in Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2022
We perform simulations of the M⊕ self-gravitating exoring thought to orbit the large exoplanet J1407b. We use a mass of MJ1407b=20MJ (which is close to the revised upper limit) and a semi-major axis of a=5AU, equating to an orbital period of ∼11yrs about

A cohesive-element-based model to evaluate interfacial behavior of casing–cement sheath for high-pressure, high-temperature wellbore integrity considering casing eccentricity

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2020
In this article, the finite element model considering the casing eccentricity of high-pressure, high-temperature wellbore integrity is established, where the cohesive zone element is introduced to evaluate the mechanical behavior of the casing–cement ...

Enhanced Black Hole Mergers in Active Galactic Nucleus Disks due to Precession-induced Resonances

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2023
Recent studies have shown that active galactic nucleus (AGN) disks can host sources of gravitational waves. Compact binaries can form and merge in AGN disks through their interactions with the gas and other compact objects in the disk.

A New Eccentric Geomagnetic Dipole to Give the Correct Dip Pole Locations

open access: yesAdvances in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, 2006
In this paper, we describe a new eccentric dipole model of the Earth’s magnetic field. The constraints under which the conventional eccentric dipole model is defined result in predicted dip pole locations that differ significantly from the measured locations.

Granular mixtures discharging through a silo with eccentric orifice location

open access: yes, 2020
We used the discrete element method (DEM) to study the flow dynamics of a mixture of dumbbells and discs for two silo cases: 1. orifice situated on the lateral wall and 2. multiple orifices placed on the base of a two-dimensional silo. The time-averaged flow fields of various parameters like velocity, area fraction, pressure, shear stress etc, obtained

Global Rather Than Vertical‐Selective Saccadic Abnormalities in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To test whether vertical saccades are preferentially affected in Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). Methods PSP patients (n = 24) were compared to age‐matched controls (n = 94) and two degenerative groups (Alzheimer's disease, n = 20; Lewy body disease, n = 50).

The Case of a 40‐Year‐Old Man With New‐Onset Status Epilepticus in the Setting of HIV Infection

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A 40‐year‐old man from Andhra Pradesh in India, while on regular antiretroviral treatment (ART) for long‐standing HIV infection presented with a 1‐day history of new‐onset status epilepticus. CT and MRI brain showed multifocal cerebral ring lesions, some of which demonstrated characteristic ‘hole‐with‐a‐dot’ sign.
