The development of the Atmospheric Measurements by Ultra-Light Spectrometer (AMULSE) greenhouse gas profiling system and application for satellite retrieval validation [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2020
We report in this paper the development of an embedded ultralight spectrometer (<3 kg) based on tuneable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (with a sampling rate of 24 Hz) in the mid-infrared spectral region.

Cooled echelle grating spectrometer [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
A cooled echelle grating spectrometer for detecting wavelengths between one micron and fifteen microns is disclosed. More specifically, the spectrometer has a cross-dispersing grating for ordering infrared energy and an echelle grating for further ...

Experimental methods in chemical engineering: Atomic absorption spectrometry—AAS

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 5, Page 2206-2224, May 2026.
Abstract Elements absorb electromagnetic radiation (light) of a specific wavelength in proportion to the number of atoms in its path. As the atoms absorb this light energy, electrons rise from the ground state to an excited state. In atomic absorption spectrometry (AAS), high temperatures produce clouds of atoms from the sample (atomization) and ...

A comprehensive radial velocity error budget for next generation Doppler spectrometers

open access: yes, 2016
We describe a detailed radial velocity error budget for the NASA-NSF Extreme Precision Doppler Spectrometer instrument concept NEID (NN-explore Exoplanet Investigations with Doppler spectroscopy).

Long‐Term Variations of Jupiter's Stratospheric Planetary Waves Modulated by the Quasi‐Quadrennial Oscillation

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract Planetary wave activity on Jupiter has been consistently observed since the Voyager mission. This study uses NASA Infrared Telescope Facility 7.6–7.9 μm long‐term ground‐based observations from 1984 to 2011 and global maps from the Cassini flyby in November and December 2000 to analyze Jupiter's stratospheric planetary wave activity.

TEDI: the TripleSpec Exoplanet Discovery Instrument

open access: yes, 2007
The TEDI (TripleSpec - Exoplanet Discovery Instrument) will be the first instrument fielded specifically for finding low-mass stellar companions. The instrument is a near infra-red interferometric spectrometer used as a radial velocimeter.

New Climatology of Martian Water Vapor Column Abundance Derived From NOMAD LNO Nadir Observations Over Martian Years 34–38

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Planets, Volume 131, Issue 4, April 2026.
Abstract We present a new climatology of Martian water vapor column abundance derived from nadir dayside observations made by the Nadir and Occultation for MArs Discovery (NOMAD) instrument suite as part of the ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter (TGO) mission. H2O vertical column densities are retrieved by applying an Optimal Estimation inversion scheme to the ...

A Calibrated Measurement of the Near-IR Continuum Sky Brightness Using Magellan/FIRE [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
We characterize the near-IR sky background from 308 observations with the FIRE spectrograph at Magellan. A subset of 105 observations selected to minimize lunar and thermal effects gives a continuous, median spectrum from 0.83 to 2.5 microns which we ...

Reinventing henna: Enzyme‐catalysed colour release from stabilized Lawsonia inermis L. extracts

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, Volume 48, Issue 2, Page 310-326, April 2026.
The instability and reduced dyeing performance of a cosmetic formulation containing 2‐hydroxy‐1,4‐naphthoquinone (lawsone), derived from Lawsonia inermis L., is demonstrated in comparison to a novel two‐component system. This system comprises one formulation with naturally occurring lawsone precursors and a second containing a specific hydrolase ...
