Dobutamine stress echocardiography [PDF]
European Heart Journal, 1997 Dobutamine is a synthetic catecholamine with predominant beta-stimulation. Its half-life is approximately 2 min. The positive chronotropic and inotropic effects of dobutamine induce myocardial ischaemia if significant coronary artery obstruction is present.

Using stress echocardiography, exercise capacity and global left ventricular function can be assessed noninvasively. To evaluate stress-induced changes in cardiovascular function, 42 patients with untreated thyrotoxicosis were examined using exercise echocardiography.
