Vascular Injury in the Zebrafish Tail Modulates Blood Flow and Peak Wall Shear Stress to Restore Embryonic Circular Network

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
Mechano-responsive signaling pathways enable blood vessels within a connected network to structurally adapt to partition of blood flow between organ systems. Wall shear stress (WSS) modulates endothelial cell proliferation and arteriovenous specification.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

A pragmatic macroeconomic default risk adjustment in developing countries

open access: yesSouth African Journal of Economic and Management Sciences
Background: The expected credit loss (ECL) framework of International Financial Reporting Standards Foundation (IFRS) 9 typically comprises three components: probability of default (PD), loss given default (LGD) and exposure at default (EAD). Among these,

Measurement of Inclusive Radiative B-meson Decays with a Photon Energy Threshold of 1.7 GeV

open access: yes, 2009
Using 605/fb of data collected at the Upsilon(4S) resonance we present a measurement of the inclusive radiative B-meson decay channel, B to X_s gamma. For the lower photon energy thresholds of 1.7, 1.8, 1.9 and 2.0GeV, as defined in the rest frame of the

Data-Mining Based Skin-Color Modeling Using the ECL Skin-Color Images Database [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Many human image processing techniques use skin detection as a first stage in subsequent feature extraction. In this paper we describe methods of skin detection using a data-mining technique. We also show the importance of the choice of the base simple to the performance of our skin analysis techniques.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Enhanced Electrochemiluminescence from Ruthenium-Tagged Immune Complex at Flexible Chains for Sensitive Analysis of Glutamate Decarboxylase Antibody

open access: yesBiosensors
Herein, a sensitive electrochemiluminescence (ECL) immunosensor is designed by immobilizing ruthenium-tagged immune complexes at flexible poly-ethylene-glycol (PEG) chains on the electrode surface, which offers more freedom for the collision of the ...

Emergence of domains and nonlinear transport in the zero-resistance state

open access: yes, 2013
We study transport in the domain state, the so-called zero-resistance state, that emerges in a two-dimensional electron system in which the combined action of microwave radiation and magnetic field produces a negative absolute conductivity.

Specific Preferences in Lineage Choice and Phenotypic Plasticity of Glioma Stem Cells Under BMP4 and Noggin Influence [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Although BMP4-induced differentiation of glioma stem cells (GSCs) is well recognized, details of the cellular responses triggered by this morphogen are still poorly defined.
