Impact of enhanced leaf model on dose calculation accuracy in single‐isocenter multitarget stereotactic radiosurgery treatments

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Single‐isocenter multitarget (SIMT) radiosurgery has become increasingly popular as advancement in planning and delivery systems have made this approach clinically viable. With targets varying in size and distance from isocenter, SIMT plans are highly complex with dynamic multileaf collimator (MLC) motion.

Improving organ dose sparing in left‐sided breast cancer with yaw‐limited volumetric modulated arc therapy: A dosimetric comparison to conventional and intensity modulated radiation therapy approaches

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background To assess the dose‐sparing capabilities of a yaw‐limited volumetric modulated arc therapy (YL_VMAT) beam setup for adjacent organs at risk (OAR) in comparison with 3D‐conventional radiation therapy (3D‐CRT), intensity‐modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and conventional VMAT for radiation therapy in left‐sided breast cancer patients.

Commissioning of Halcyon enhanced leaf model in the Eclipse treatment planning system: Focus on simple slit fields and VMAT dose calculation

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The dual‐layer multileaf collimator (MLC) in Halcyon adds complexities to the dose calculation process owing to the variability of dosimetric characteristics with leaf motion. Recently, an enhanced leaf model (ELM) was developed to refine the MLC model in the Eclipse treatment planning system. This study investigates the performance of

Closing the gap in plan quality: Leveraging deep‐learning dose prediction for adaptive radiotherapy

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Balancing quality and efficiency has been a challenge for online adaptive therapy. Most systems start the online re‐optimization with the original planning goals. While some systems allow planners to modify the planning goals, achieving a high‐quality plan within time constraints remains a common barrier.

Commissioning evaluation of a deviceless 4DCT scanner

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Background The utilization of four‐dimensional computed tomography (4DCT) for radiation therapy has not seen major advances to the method of data binning since shortly after inception. Recently there is increased interest in the utilization of an alternative binning method rather than more established techniques.

Stereotactic radiosurgery for multiple small brain metastases using gamma knife versus single‐isocenter VMAT: Normal brain dose based on lesion number and size

open access: yesJournal of Applied Clinical Medical Physics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The study evaluates rapid linear accelerator (Linac) single isocenter stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) with Hyperarc for large target numbers. We compared to Gamma Knife (GK), which suffers from long treatment times and investigated causes of differences. Methods Linac SRS and GK treatment plans for patients receiving 18 Gy to the gross

The Solar Eclipse [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1872
IT does not happen more than once in a lifetime to see such a glorious and magnificent sight as that from which I have just returned; that is, the total eclipse of the sun. I have seen many eclipses before, but never anything to equal this. I was engaged to go with the Morgans to the top of the hill to see it.

The Eclipsing Cataclysmic Variables PHL 1445 and GALEX J003535.7+462353 [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2011
PHL 1445 is found to be an eclipsing cataclysmic variable with an orbital period of 76.3 minutes. GALEX J003535.7+462353 is a new eclipsing dwarf nova with an orbital period of 4.13 hours. Both objects show deep eclipses with an amplitude of more than two magnitudes.

Natural Coronagraphic Observations of the Eclipsing T Tauri System KH 15D: Evidence for Accretion and Bipolar Outflow in a WTTS

open access: yes, 2003
We present high resolution (R $\sim$ 44,000) UVES spectra of the eclipsing pre-main sequence star KH 15D covering the wavelength range 4780 to 6810 {\AA} obtained at three phases: out of eclipse, near minimum light and during egress. The system evidently
