Improved Period Variations of 32 Contact Binaries with Rapidly Decreasing Periods in the Galactic Bulge

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
We present detailed analyses of updated eclipse timing diagrams for 32 contact binary merger candidates in the Galactic bulge. The photometric data was obtained from 2016 to 2021 using the Korea Microlensing Telescope Network with the 1.6 m telescopes ...

A Modified Kwee–Van Woerden Method for Eclipse Minimum Timing with Reliable Error Estimates

open access: yesGalaxies, 2020
The Kwee–van Woerden (KvW) method used for the determination of eclipse minimum times has been a staple in eclipsing binary research for decades, due its simplicity and the independence of external input parameters, which also makes it well-suited to ...

Investigating the System Configuration of Kepler-451 through Orbital Period Variations: Dynamical and Magnetic Interpretations

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present an analysis of eclipse timing variations in Kepler-451 using data spanning 2004–2024 from both ground- and space-based observations. Using two data sets, Data Set A (DS-A) and Data Set B (DS-B), we constructed updated O–C diagrams. By modeling

Precision Timing of Eclipsing Binaries from TESS Full Frame Images: Method and Performance

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Several hundreds of thousands of eclipsing binaries (EBs) are expected to be detected in the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) full frame images (FFIs).

Evidence for a Close-in Tertiary Orbiting around the Algol-type System HZ Dra with Tidal Splitting and Spots Activities

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We report a cyclic variation of the O − C diagram with a semiamplitude of 0.0033 days and a period of 1.05 yr for the pulsating eclipsing binary HZ Dra. The cyclic variation can be explained by the light travel-time effect via the presence of a close-in ...

MG1-1995959: An Eclipsing Binary Star with a Pronounced O’Connell Effect

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
MG1-1995959 is a short-period (∼0.586 day) eclipsing binary, exhibiting at times an extraordinarily large O’Connell effect (OE), for which this paper reports its discovery, time series photometry, and spectroscopic observation.

Simultaneous Photometric and Spectroscopic Analysis of V505 Lacertae, a Photospherically and Chromospherically Active Contact Binary Star

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
New BVR photometric and high-resolution spectroscopic observations of V505 Lac are presented with Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) photometric data. The orbital period has experienced a secular decrease during the past 16 yr.

Investigating Period Variability Mechanisms in Eclipsing Binary Stars through Eclipsing Time Variation Analysis: A Case Study of TZ Bootis

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present an effective strategy for extensive analysis of eclipsing time variations (ETVs) using modern and sophisticated optimization methods that comprise a set of tools to investigate period variability mechanisms in eclipsing binary stars such as ...

Long-term Orbital Period Variations of the Eclipsing Dwarf Nova HT Cas

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present a comprehensive analysis of the long-term orbital period variations in the short-period eclipsing dwarf nova HT Cas. By combining our new high-precision mid-eclipse times obtained between 2015 and 2026 with archival data, we constructed an ...

An Eccentric Planet Orbiting the Polar V808 Aurigae

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We analyze 15 yr of eclipse timings of the polar V808 Aur. The rapid ingress/egress of the white dwarf and bright accretion region provide timings as precise as a few tenths of a second for rapid cadence photometric data.
