Haunting the Historiography of Slaves in South Asia from the nineteenth century to the present
ABSTRACT Using both English and Urdu‐language records, this article traces the career of a few African and Afro‐Asian women slaves in the household‐state of Awadh during the first half of the nineteenth century. Focusing on the same records, this article compares a master‐poet's recognition of the motherhood of the African and Afro‐Asian slaves to the ...

Eclipsing high-mass binary stars [PDF]

ABSTRACT A new archive of oral history interviews from LGBTQIA‐identified alumni, faculty and staff reveals the complex ways that queer and transgender students understood, experienced and remembered the long transition from single‐sex to coeducation at Princeton University.

TIC 290061484: A Triply Eclipsing Triple System with the Shortest Known Outer Period of 24.5 Days
We have discovered a triply eclipsing triple-star system, TIC 290061484, with the shortest known outer period, P _out , of only 24.5 days. This “eclipses” the previous record set by λ Tauri at 33.02 days, which held for 68 yr.

EVOLUTIONARY EFFECTS IN CLOSE BINARIES: ANALYSIS OF THE DISTRIBUTION OF ORBITAL ECCENTRICITIES
Dependencies of orbital eccentricity e on orbital periods P in close binary systems (CBS) of different masses and ages, being at the Main Sequence (DMS) and being eclipsing binary stars (EBS), are reviewed.

The occurrence of classical Cepheids in binary systems
Classical Cepheids, like binary stars, are laboratories for stellar evolution and Cepheids in binary systems are especially powerful ones. About one-third of Galactic Cepheids are known to have companions and Cepheids in eclipsing binary systems have ...

THE AESTHETICS OF URBAN METABOLISM: Landscape, Design and the Politics of In/Visibility
Abstract In this article, we chart the evolving aesthetic contours of urban metabolism across London, focusing on the River Lea and Thamesmead to the north and south of the River Thames, respectively. We begin in the nineteenth century, when these two sites formed critical nodes within a new sewerage system that relegated the city’s circulatory flows ...

The Triple System V1371 Tau: An Eclipsing Binary with an Outer Be Star
Although triple systems are common, their orbital dynamics and stellar evolution remain poorly understood. We investigated the V1371 Tau system using TESS photometry, multiepoch spectroscopy, and recent interferometric data, confirming it as a rare ...

A Reflection Model for Eclipsing Binary Stars [PDF]
A highly accurate reflection model has been developed which emphasizes efficiency of computer calculation. It is assumed that the heating of the irradiated star must depend upon the following properties of the irradiating star: (1) effective temperature; (2) apparent area as seen from a point on the surface of the irradiated star; (3) limb darkening ...

The massive binary population of the starburst cluster Westerlund 1 [PDF]
We present initial results from a long-baseline radial velocity survey for massive binaries in the cluster Westerlund 1. Four systems are examined: the dust-producing WC binary W239, the double-lined eclipsing binary W13, and the single-lined B0 ...
