A Case of Simultaneous Surgical Correction of Tetralogy of Fallot Combined with Tracheal Stenosis in a One-Year-Old Child

open access: yesУкраїнський журнал серцево-судинної хірургії
Congenital tracheal stenosis formed by complete cartilage rings is a rare disorder, occurring in 1:64,500 newborns. Concomitant heart defects significantly complicate the course of the disease and its surgical management.

Long COVID following SARS‐CoV‐2 infection during pregnancy: An observational study in a large Italian hospital during the COVID‐19 pandemic

open access: yesActa Obstetricia et Gynecologica Scandinavica, EarlyView.
Among 348 women infected with SARS‐CoV‐2 during pregnancy, 27% developed Long COVID. Risk factors included preexisting respiratory comorbidities, pneumonia, and earlier pregnancy stage. Vaccination significantly reduced this risk and altered symptom patterns, supporting its protective role and emphasizing the importance of preventive strategies for ...

Advancements in Pulmonary Embolism Management: Current Approaches and Future Directions

open access: yesReviews in Cardiovascular Medicine
Pulmonary embolism (PE) is one of the leading causes of cardiovascular mortality, with a high 30-day mortality rate. Despite clear treatment guidelines based on patient risk profiles, evidence suggests a discrepancy between clinical practice worldwide ...

Hemocompatibility Outcomes After Aspirin Withdrawal in Long‐Term HeartMate 3 Left Ventricular Assist Device Patients on Vitamin K Antagonists

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Aspirin discontinuation in long‐term, stable Heart Mate 3 LVAD patients maintained on Vitamin K antagonists did not increase hemocompatibility‐related adverse events. These findings support the safety of simplified antithrombotic therapy and extend randomized evidence for aspirin avoidance to the long‐term management of Heart Mate 3 recipients ...

Venoarterial Extracorporeal Life Support in Circulatory Shock Secondary to Severe Vasoplegia from Ramipril Overdose

open access: yesAnnals of Cardiac Anaesthesia
Management of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs) overdose is historically challenging. We present the case of an overdose which was successfully managed with the utilization of venoarterial extracorporeal life support.

Troubleshooting Adult ECMO

open access: yesThe Journal of ExtraCorporeal Technology, 2011
The following scenarios explore some of the common problems encountered during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) in adults. In each scenario, the circuit is comprised of a centrifugal pump and a polymethylpentene oxygenator.

Percutaneous Versus Surgical Cannulation for Femoro‐Femoral Venoarterial Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation: A Retrospective Cohort Study on Cannulation‐Related Complications

open access: yesArtificial Organs, EarlyView.
Percutaneous femoro‐femoral V‐A ECMO cannulation was associated with more than a two‐fold lower risk of site bleeding and nearly a six‐fold lower risk of infection compared with surgical cut‐down, with no difference in limb ischemia. Absence of distal perfusion catheterization and larger arterial cannula size were additional modifiable ischemia risk ...

Venovenous extracorporeal membrane oxygenation devices-related colonisations and infections

open access: yesAnnals of Intensive Care, 2017
Background Nosocomial infections occurring during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support have already been reported, but few studied infections directly related to ECMO devices.
