Dedalo Vola project: The effect of choral singing on physiological and psychosocial measures. An Italian pilot study

open access: yesActa Psychologica
Several studies have been conducted that show the crucial role of active participation in music in health promotion (e.g. Dingle et al., 2021; Sheppard & Broughton, 2020); however, little research has focused on the biopsychosocial effects of choral ...

The ecological transition in speciation [PDF]

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 2003
SummaryEcological transitions are at the core of different modes of speciation. These transitions face both genetic and demographic hurdles. This paper focuses on how these hurdles are overcome, allowing ecological speciation and speciation via hybridization and/or polyploidy. Niche shifting is a two‐step process.

In silico and in vitro exploration of a tyrosinase for biocatalytic production of catechols

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Tyrosinase from Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum is a promising biocatalyst for producing valuable catechols from monophenol substrates. This tyrosinase is uniquely suited to this due to its high monophenolase : diphenolase ratio. We combined in silico docking and in vivo kinetic characterisation of this tyrosinase with 11 industrially relevant monophenols,

Physiological Responses to Salt Stress at the Seedling Stage in Wild (Oryza rufipogon Griff.) and Cultivated (Oryza sativa L.) Rice

open access: yesPlants
Domesticated rice Oryza sativa L. is a major staple food worldwide, and the cereal most sensitive to salinity. It originated from the wild ancestor Oryza rufipogon Griff., which was reported to possess superior salinity tolerance.

Validity of a Wearable Digital Insole for Assessing Gait ON and OFF in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Gait impairment is a distinctive symptom of Parkinson's disease that negatively impact mobility. We assessed the validity of wearable digital insoles against a validated reference gait analysis system for measuring select gait characteristics in patients with Parkinson's disease. Methods A comparative analysis between digital insoles

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

The transitions of ecological lighting

open access: yes, 2022
The evolution from tungsten lighting to LED technology has led to experiments in which design is involved. New technological devices capture the energy produced by the light emitted by the luminaire and return it to the luminaire. In contrast, others exploit its high-frequency modulation and make it possible to "fill" a beam of LED light with ...
