Strong Fully Reprocessable Engineered Wood Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Engineering a hyperbranched adhesive with complementary imine‐bond and hydrogen‐bond networks, combining it with wood particles to fabricate the wood composite (WP/HTP) under mild hot‐pressing conditions. The WP/HTP exhibits 100% mechanical strength recovery after three cycles of reprocessing, and the reprocessed modulus of rupture (MOR) and modulus of

Review article "Assessment of economic flood damage"

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2010
Damage assessments of natural hazards supply crucial information to decision support and policy development in the fields of natural hazard management and adaptation planning to climate change. Specifically, the estimation of economic flood damage is gaining greater importance as flood risk management is becoming the dominant approach of flood control ...

Smart Electrospun Nanofibers for Controlled Oil‐Water Separation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Stimuli‐responsive electrospun nanofibers are reviewed as advanced platforms for controlled oil/water separation. The effects of surface wettability, porous structure, and external stimuli, including pH, temperature, gas, and light, on separation performance are discussed.

Scalable Production of Disordered Nickel‐Iron‐Aluminum Oxides as Stable Anodes for Water Electrolysis: The Role of Aluminum

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Solution precursor plasma spraying enables the scalable fabrication of porous and disordered nickel‐iron‐aluminum oxide coatings as precious‐metal‐free anodes. Aluminum inhibits crystal growth, optimizes local atomic sites, and enhances charge and ion transport to accelerate reaction kinetics, leading to excellent performance and operational stability.

Economic Analysis of Compensation for Oil Pollution Damage

open access: yesJournal of Maritime Law and Commerce, 2006
In this paper the economic analysis of law is used to analyze the international regime with respect to the compensation provided to victims of oil pollution damage. It concerns more particularly the regime which came into being through the international maritime organization IMO which resulted in the Civil Liability Convention of 1969 and the Fund ...

MXene‐Based Electrocatalysts for Sustainable Nitrogen Conversion: From Ammonia Oxidation to Nitrogen and Nitrate Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This review compares MXene‐based electrocatalysis for ammonia oxidation, nitrogen reduction, and nitrate reduction, highlighting reaction‐dependent differences in catalytic performance and stability. MXenes are generally more compatible with cathodic nitrogen and nitrate reduction, whereas anodic ammonia oxidation raises stability concerns.

Leveraging Mechanical Resonances for the Selection of Promising Materials in Complex Phase Spaces

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A central challenge in materials science is the design of new functional materials with enhanced performance for targeted applications. This paper demonstrates that “listening” to materials through measuring their mechanical resonances is a rich, and largely untapped, platform for the rapid identification of promising novel compounds and a powerful ...

3D‐Printed Corneal Substitutes: Materials, Fabrication, and Preclinical Progress

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Successful clinical translation of 3D‐printed corneal substitutes relies on the interplay between the bioink properties, cellular component, and the fabrication process. These factors influence the critical properties of the construct, including optical transparency, mechanical stability, suture retention, that ultimately govern long‐term stromal ...
