Functional validation of a white pupae minimal gene construct in Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae)

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
An intronless version of the white pupae (wp) gene was engineered to restore the wild type brown puparium color in white pupae phenotype mutants of the Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata. Functionality of the minimal gene version (mini‐wp) was verified in vivo, as one copy of mini‐wp successfully restored the wild type phenotype in homozygous ...

Identification and characterization of polymorphisms at the HSA a1-acid glycoprotein (ORM*) gene locus in Caucasians

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2002
Human alpha1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) or orosomucoid (ORM) is a major acute phase protein that is thought to play a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis.

Hydrogen Peroxide-Based Fluorometric Assay for Real-Time Monitoring of SAM-Dependent Methyltransferases

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2018
Methylated chemicals are widely used as key intermediates for the syntheses of pharmaceuticals, fragrances, flavors, biofuels and plastics. In nature, the process of methylation is commonly undertaken by a super-family of S-adenosyl methionine-dependent ...

Molecular cloning and characterization of a new member of the gap junction gene family, connexin-31 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1991
A new member of the connexin gene family has been identified and designated rat connexin-31 (Cx31) based on its predicted molecular mass of 30,960 daltons. Cx31 is 270 amino acids long and is coded for by a single copy gene.

The ubiK protein is an accessory factor necessary for bacterial Ubiquinone (UQ) biosynthesis and forms a complex with the UQ biogenesis factor UbiJ [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Ubiquinone (UQ), also referred to as coenzyme Q, is a widespread lipophilic molecule in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes in which it primarily acts as an electron carrier.

Substrate dependence of the mechanism of EcoRI endonuclease

open access: yesNucleic Acids Research, 1978
The mechanism of EcoRI endonuclease is substrate dependent. At 37 degrees dissociation of the enzyme-Form II DNA intermediates of ColE1 DNA and bacteriophage G4 RFI DNA is negligible. Therefore, both DNA strands with in the EcoRI sequence are cleaved during a single binding event.

Sequence and expression analysis of potential spermatogenesis‐specific gene cognates in the Caribbean fruit fly, Anastrepha suspensa

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Abstract The sterile insect technique (SIT) is a highly effective biologically‐based method for the suppression of many insect pest populations. SIT efficacy could be improved by methods of male sterilization that avoid the use of irradiation that can result in diminished fitness and mating competitiveness.

Apolipoproteins AI/B/E gene polymorphism and their plasma levels in patients with coronary artery disease in a tertiary care-center of Eastern India

open access: yesIndian Heart Journal, 2013
Aim: The present study was designed to investigate whether the three-apolipoprotein (AI, B, E) gene polymorphisms were related to alter their plasma protein levels and hence associated to coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods: We determined distribution

Identification of MEF2A, MEF2C, and MEF2D interactomes in basal and Fsk‐stimulated mouse MA‐10 Leydig cells

open access: yesAndrology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Myocyte enhancer factor 2 transcription factors regulate essential transcriptional programs in various cell types. The activity of myocyte enhancer factor 2 factors is modulated through interactions with cofactors, chromatin remodelers, and other regulatory proteins, which are dependent on cell context and physiological state.
