Heterologous plastoquinone production using a newly identified O2‐dependent cyanobacterial hydroxylase

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
In this study, we confirm that PlqH is the hydroxylase operating in plastoquinone biosynthesis in photosynthetic cyanobacteria (Cyanobacteriia). Our phylogenetic analyses demonstrate that cyanobacterial PlqH homologues originated from hydroxylases involved in ubiquinone biosynthesis in bacteria. Plastoquinone production in Escherichia coli was achieved

The bZIP3‐AS1 complex promotes CONSTANS‐induced FLOWERING LOCUS T activation in a daylength‐dependent manner

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
The Arabidopsis bZIP3 protein works in conjunction with ASYMMETRIC LEAVES1 to facilitate the function of the CONSTANS protein in activating FLOWERING LOCUS T expression at the end of the day in a day length‐dependent manner. ABSTRACT Plants monitor daylength to synchronize their flowering time with their surroundings and thus maximize reproductive ...

A GmNRF5a–GmCERK1–GmCAK1 module mediates chitin/chitosan‐triggered immune response in soybean

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
In soybeans, the GmNFR5a‐GmCERK1‐GmCAK1 module regulates immune responses triggered by chitin oligosaccharides and chitosan oligosaccharides from fungal pathogens. This reveals a shared upstream signaling mechanism for distinct microbial patterns and provides valuable genetic targets for improving broad‐spectrum disease resistance in crops.

Natural variations in MdBPM2/MdRGLG3‐MdNAC83 network controlling the quantitative segregation of apple fruit storability

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
During postharvest cold storage of apples, the NAC transcription factor MdNAC83 binds to the promoters and activates the expression of downstream genes and is regulated by E3 ligases, which promote its ubiquitination and degradation. Genetic variants in MdNAC83 and its downstream genes form a network to regulate apple fruit storability.

Population Genetics Reveals the Invasion Pathways of Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum in North America. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Mesembryanthemum nodiflorum is a species of ice plant native to South Africa that has become invasive in California and Mexico. The present study used RADseq data to run a population genetics analysis to match the invasive populations to those in the native and introduced ranges of the Mediterranean.
