Identifying thresholds for ecosystem-based management. [PDF]

PLoS ONE, 2010
BACKGROUND: One of the greatest obstacles to moving ecosystem-based management (EBM) from concept to practice is the lack of a systematic approach to defining ecosystem-level decision criteria, or reference points that trigger management action ...

Value of ecosystem-based management. [PDF]

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A, 2018
Taking the pulse of an ecosystem is not quite as straightforward as taking the pulse of a person, especially when that ecosystem is the Chesapeake Bay. At 195 miles long and 3,237 square miles in area, the size and complexity of the bay’s coupled social and ecological systems has challenged efforts to assess its health.

Ecosystem-based management and the wealth of ecosystems. [PDF]

Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A, 2017
Significance Ecosystems store vast quantities of wealth, but difficulties measuring wealth held in ecosystems prevent its inclusion in accounting systems. Ecosystem-based management endeavors to manage ecosystems holistically. However, ecosystem-based management lacks headline indicators to evaluate performance. We unify the inclusive

Exploring ecosystem‐based management in the North Atlantic [PDF]

Journal of Fish Biology, 2022
AbstractThe United States, the EU and Canada established a trilateral working group on the ecosystem approach to ocean health and stressors under the Atlantic Ocean Research Alliance. Recognizing the Atlantic Ocean as a shared resource and responsibility, the working group sought to advance understanding of the Atlantic Ocean and its dynamic systems to

Ecoviability for ecosystem‐based fisheries management [PDF]

Fish and Fisheries, 2017
AbstractReconciling food security, economic development and biodiversity conservation is a key challenge, especially in the face of the demographic transition characterizing many countries in the world. Fisheries and marine ecosystems constitute a difficult application of this bio‐economic challenge.

Ecosystem-Based Fisheries Management [PDF]

, 2010
Responsible fisheries management is of increasing interest to the scientific community, resource managers, policy makers, stakeholders and the general public. Focusing solely on managing one species of fish stock at a time has become less of a viable option in addressing the problem.

A Case Study in Connecting Fisheries Management Challenges With Models and Analysis to Support Ecosystem-Based Management in the California Current Ecosystem

Frontiers in Marine Science, 2021
One of the significant challenges to using information and ideas generated through ecosystem models and analyses for ecosystem-based fisheries management is the disconnect between modeling and management needs.

EBM – BASED INNOVATION STRATEGY FOR INTEGRATED MANAGEMENT OF MARINE ECOLOGICAL PROTECTION [PDF]

Geological Behavior, 2019
The ecosystem-based coastal zone management (EBCZM) is an innovative integrated management concept that can meet the above practical needs. First of all need to start from the practice of China’s coastal zone management, illustrates the management (EBM ...
