Ecosystems Under Varying Ambient Conditions
1988Ecosystems governed by random dynamic non-linear equations are studied in detail. The process is precisely characterized, both for the non-markovian and the markovian case, including short range order. A new feature, the appearance of early chaos, is introduced and analyzed. The Lyapunov exponent is defined and evaluated.

Benthic Communities as Indicators of Ecosystem Condition
1992Bottom-dwelling (benthic) communities are major secondary consumers in coastal and estuarine ecosystems, frequently representing one of the largest living pools of organic carbon. These communities can consume significant portions of primary production, particularly in shallow, unstratified systems.

Relationships between ecosystem condition and ecosystem services at different spatial scales
2022Land degradation is one of the main drivers of decline in biodiversity, ecosystem condition and services. Agricultural expansion is the main form of land-use change and causes adverse effects on forests, wetlands, grasslands and their capacity to provide ecosystem services.

New Indicators of Coastal Ecosystem Condition
2005In order to protect against continued degradation and loss of coastal ecosystem services and to plan for theirremediation, new indicators are needed that will predict when and where ecosystem degradation and wetland losses will occur. Three ecological indicators of coastal condition are being investigated by researchers with the Atlantic Coast ...

Industrial ecosystems — some conditions for success
International Journal of Sustainable Development & World Ecology, 2001SUMMARY The development of Industrial Ecology (IE) is based on the philosophy that the two systems, the industrial system and the ecosystem operate through different principles of system development and on the philosophy that IE can serve to reduce the conflict between the two systems as it learns from the model of an ecosystem. In an IE, following the

New Indicators of Coastal Ecosystem Conditions
2005Direct and indirect effects of human activities have taken atoll on the nation's estuaries, yet few direct linkages have been identified between human activities on land andresponses in estuarine ecosystems. The Atlantic Coast Environmental Indicators Consortium (www.aceinc.org) is oneof five national projects funded by EPA's EaGLe program. The goal of
