Phenylalanine 15N enrichment likely indicates fungal‐derived organic nutrient acquisition in mycoheterotrophic plants across fungal guilds

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 6, Page 3990-4001, June 2026.
Summary Beyond fully mycoheterotrophic plants, many green plants may also obtain carbon from fungal partners. However, bulk stable isotope analyses often lack sufficient resolution in arbuscular mycorrhizal and rhizoctonia‐associated orchid systems, limiting inference of fungal‐derived organic nutrient acquisition.

Increased arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal biomass and diversity in soil under long‐term climate drying and warming

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 6, Page 3961-3975, June 2026.
Summary Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) support critical ecosystem services including plant resource acquisition and productivity. AMF functional traits such as relative biomass investment in root vs soil colonization or drought tolerance are thought to be evolutionarily conserved within AMF lineages and might influence AMF community responses to ...

Endophytic and ectomycorrhizal, an overlooked dual ecological niche? Insights from natural environments and Russula species

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 6, Page 3946-3960, June 2026.
Summary Ectomycorrhizal fungi (EcMF) are key components of temperate ecosystems, and recent studies suggest that they can also inhabit non‐EcM plant roots as endophytes. We aimed to (1) provide new evidence of EcMF colonization of non‐EcM hosts, (2) offer direct microscopic confirmation of such endophytism and (3) assess factors influencing ...

Decomposition by ectomycorrhizal fungi alters soil carbon storage in a simulation model

open access: yes, 2015
Carbon cycle models often lack explicit belowground organism activity, yet belowground organisms regulate carbon storage and release in soil. Ectomycorrhizal fungi are important players in the carbon cycle because they are a conduit into soil for carbon ...

Fungal community survey of Fraxinus excelior in New Zealand

open access: yes, 2012
The European Ash tree (Fraxinus excelsior) is widely grown throughout Europe. As a large deciduous tree species, it grows a tall, domed crown and has an attractive tree shape, so it is considered as a popular amenity tree species. European Ash is planted

Espécies de Pisolitus sp. Na produção de mudas de Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden em solo arenoso

open access: yesCiência Florestal, 2004
The aim of this work was to evaluate the action of isolated native ectomycorrhizal fungi native of São Francisco of Assis, in the production of Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maidem seedlings, in sandy soil, in the presence of two levels of phosphorus.

Mycorrhizal specificity of fully mycoheterotrophic Yoania in Taiwan and China and novel natural abundance stable isotope patterns

open access: yesPlant Biology, Volume 28, Issue 4, Page 1159-1168, June 2026.
Three species of the mycoheterotrophic orchid genus Yoania found in Taiwan and China are associated with a single taxonomic unit of white‐rot fungus from the genus Physisporinus and exhibit a stable isotope pattern distinct from other fully mycoheterotrophic (FMH) orchids associated with wood‐decaying fungi.
