[ Identification And Prevalence Of Ectoparasites In Grouper (Cromileptes altivelis) At Floating Net Cage Of Marineculture Management Unit Situbondo]

open access: yesJurnal Ilmiah Perikanan dan Kelautan, 2012
Grouper is a fish that lives in coral reefs, which is the internationally known as groupers or coral reef fishes. These fish have high economic value and potential to be developed in Indonesia. Grouper traded alive, the price is relatively high.

An Early‐Life Disruption of Gut Microbiota Has Opposing Effects on Parasite Resistance in Two Host Species

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Gut microbiota regulate multiple aspects of host health, including metabolism and the development of the immune system. However, we still know relatively little about how the gut microbiota influences host responses to parasitism in wild organisms, particularly whether host‐microbiota interactions contribute to variation in parasitism across ...

Morphological and molecular data on the bat flies, Basilia silvae (Brèthes, 1913) and Trichobius parasiticus Gervais, 1844 parasitizing Chilean bats

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
We determined morphological and molecularly two species of bat flies: T. parasiticus (Streblidae), and B. silvae (Nycteribiidae). We generated the first sequences for both species in the country for the cytochrome oxidase subunit I. We do recover monophyletic groups for both species, and we discussed the tree topology.

Citizen scientists mapping the United Kingdom's and Republic of Ireland's flat flies (louse flies) (Diptera: Hippoboscidae) reveal a vector's range shift

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, EarlyView.
The Common or Bird Louse Fly Ornithomya avicularia, a vector of Haemoproteus sp. and trypanosomes, has undergone a major northwards range expansion in the United Kingdom since the 1960s. The Finch Louse Fly Ornithomya fringillina has also expanded its range northwards and westwards, and the Swallow Louse Fly Ornithomya biloba is now established in ...

Effect of Feathers as Nest Insulation on Incubation Behavior and Reproductive Performance of Tree Swallows (\u3cem\u3eTachycineta bicolor\u3c/em\u3e) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1995
Many species of birds line their nests with feathers, presumably because of the insulative qualities of feathers and because feathers may act as a barrier between nest parasites and nestlings.

Bat flies (Diptera: Nycteribiidae and Streblidae) infesting cave-dwelling bats in Gabon: Diversity, dynamics and potential role in Polychromophilus melanipherus transmission [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Background Evidence of haemosporidian infections in bats and bat flies has motivated a growing interest in characterizing their transmission cycles.
