Control of ectoparasitic infestation in country goats

Small Ruminant Research, 1990
Abstract Goats have great significance in India, where the main breeds are the Jamunapari, Beetal, Barbari and Black Bengal. One of the reasons for their low productivity is parasitic infestation with ticks (predominantly Hyalomma and Boophilus ), mites and lice.

Ectoparasite infestation and sex-biased local recruitment of hosts

Nature, 1999
Dispersal patterns of organisms are a fundamental aspect of their ecology, modifying the genetic and social structure of local populations. Parasites reduce the reproductive success and survival of hosts and thereby exert selection pressure on host life-history traits, possibly affecting host dispersal.

Ectoparasite infestations of red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) in Hungary

Veterinary Parasitology, 2003
A survey was carried out to investigate the ectoparasite infestations of 100 red foxes (Vulpes vulpes) in Hungary. The overall prevalence of flea and tick infestation was high (62 and 86% with the dominance of the anthropophil Pulex irritans and Ixodes ricinus), but the number of parasites was low to moderate.

Stress response of brown pelican nestlings to ectoparasite infestation

General and Comparative Endocrinology, 2010
Measurement of corticosterone has become a useful tool for assessing the response of individuals to ecological stressors of interest. Enhanced corticosterone levels can promote survival of stressful events; however, in situations where a stressor persists and corticosterone levels remain elevated, the adrenocortical response can be detrimental.
