Eddies

open access: yesProceedings of the 2000 ACM SIGMOD international conference on Management of data, 2000
In large federated and shared-nothing databases, resources can exhibit widely fluctuating characteristics. Assumptions made at the time a query is submitted will rarely hold throughout the duration of query processing. As a result, traditional static query optimization and execution techniques are ineffective in these environments.

Wall-attached and wall-detached eddies in wall-bounded turbulent flows

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2019
According to Townsend’s attached eddy hypothesis (AEH), a boundary layer flow is comprised of wall-attached eddies, but to extract the part of the flow whose statistical behaviours are well described by the AEH is not at all straightforward.

EDDIE

Proceedings of the 44th Annual International Symposium on Computer Architecture, 2017
This paper describes EM-Based Detection of Deviations in Program Execution (EDDIE), a new method for detecting anomalies in program execution, such as malware and other code injections, without introducing any overheads, adding any hardware support, changing any software, or using any resources on the monitored system itself.

Eddi

Proceedings of the 23nd annual ACM symposium on User interface software and technology, 2010
Twitter streams are on overload: active users receive hundreds of items per day, and existing interfaces force us to march through a chronologically-ordered morass to find tweets of interest. We present an approach to organizing a user's own feed into coherently clustered trending topics for more directed exploration.

On ‘spurious’ eddies

International Journal for Numerical Methods in Fluids, 2002
AbstractRecently, several papers have appeared in the CFD literature, proposing an idealized instability problem as a benchmark for discriminating among numerical algorithms for two‐dimensional Navier–Stokes flows. The problem is a double shear layer simulated at coarse resolution and with a prescribed interface perturbation.

Magnetic hyperthermia is a modern type of treatment, that aims to locally destroy the cancerous tumor. However, one of the restrictions of magnetic hyperthermia therapy is the appearance of eddy currents on healthy human tissues due to the electric field induced by the alternating magnetic field.
