A Survey on Optimizing Mobile Delivery of 360° Videos: Edge Caching and Multicasting

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2023
Recently, there has been an ever-growing demand for virtual reality (VR) and 360° video applications. Different from conventional 2D videos, 360° videos take users into an immersive experience by providing them with a navigable panoramic view.

Distributed Reinforcement Learning for Privacy-Preserving Dynamic Edge Caching [PDF]

open access: yesIEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 2021
Mobile edge computing (MEC) is a prominent computing paradigm which expands the application fields of wireless communication. Due to the limitation of the capacities of user equipments and MEC servers, edge caching (EC) optimization is crucial to the ...

Asynchronous Federated and Reinforcement Learning for Mobility-Aware Edge Caching in IoV

open access: yesIEEE Internet of Things Journal
Edge caching is a promising technology to reduce backhaul strain and content access delay in Internet of Vehicles (IoV). It precaches frequently used contents close to vehicles through intermediate roadside units. Previous edge caching works often assume

Attention-Weighted Federated Deep Reinforcement Learning for Device-to-Device Assisted Heterogeneous Collaborative Edge Caching

open access: yesIEEE Journal on Selected Areas in Communications, 2021
In order to meet the growing demands for multimedia service access and release the pressure of the core network, edge caching and device-to-device (D2D) communication have been regarded as two promising techniques in next generation mobile networks and ...

Caching at the Edge with Fountain Codes [PDF]

open access: yes2018 9th Advanced Satellite Multimedia Systems Conference and the 15th Signal Processing for Space Communications Workshop (ASMS/SPSC), 2018
We address the use of linear randon fountain codes caching schemes in a heterogeneous satellite network. We consider a system composed of multiple hubs and a geostationary Earth orbit satellite. Coded content is memorized in hubs' caches in order to serve immediately the user requests and reduce the usage of the satellite backhaul link.

Local Search and the Evolution of World Models

open access: yesTopics in Cognitive Science, EarlyView., 2023
Abstract An open question regarding how people develop their models of the world is how new candidates are generated for consideration out of infinitely many possibilities. We discuss the role that evolutionary mechanisms play in this process. Specifically, we argue that when it comes to developing a global world model, innovation is necessarily ...

Multiobjective Codesign Optimization of a Planar Pneumatic Artificial Muscle‐Based Snake‐Like Robot for Enhanced Agility and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A codesign multiobjective optimization framework was developed to enhance the morphology and controller of a snake‐like robot driven by artificial muscles. It improved planar locomotion, agility, and power efficiency. The approach optimized link geometry and controller gains, revealing that shorter muscles near joints and longer linkages maximize ...

Continual Learning for Multimodal Data Fusion of a Soft Gripper

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Models trained on a single data modality often struggle to generalize when exposed to a different modality. This work introduces a continual learning algorithm capable of incrementally learning different data modalities by leveraging both class‐incremental and domain‐incremental learning scenarios in an artificial environment where labeled data is ...
