Synergistic antibacterial activity of baicalin in combination with oxacillin sodium against methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 15, Issue 4, Page 608-621, April 2025.
The bacterial cell membrane and cell wall are the primary targets of baicalin. Baicalin increases the permeability of bacterial membranes, allowing oxacillin sodium to easily penetrate the cells and effectively exert its antimicrobial activity. Methicillin‐resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) poses a challenge for clinical treatment and combining ...

Evaluation of synaptotagmin‐1 action models by all‐atom molecular dynamics simulations

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 15, Issue 5, Page 699-713, May 2025.
We used molecular dynamics simulations to test models proposing that synaptotagmin‐1 facilitates membrane fusion by perturbing lipid bilayers, inducing membrane curvature and/or bridging membranes. The simulations show that synaptotagmin‐1 C2‐domains placed near the site of fusion hinder the ability of SNARE complexes to bring the membranes together ...

FAM136A depletion induces mitochondrial stress and reduces mitochondrial membrane potential and ATP production

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 15, Issue 5, Page 738-753, May 2025.
FAM136A depletion upregulated ROS production, reduced mitochondrial membrane potential (ΔΨ) and ATP production, and upregulated expression of PCK1, PCK2, HMGCS1, and HMGCS2. The expression of both TOMM22 and TOMM20 was also upregulated. FAM136A depletion reduced HCCS that produce holocytochrome c by combining heme to apocytochrome c, and reduced the ...

Comparative activity of dimethyl fumarate derivative IDMF in three models relevant to multiple sclerosis and psoriasis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, Volume 15, Issue 5, Page 754-762, May 2025.
IDMF is a derivative of dimethyl fumarate (DMF) with a unique therapeutic potential at the intersection of psoriasis and multiple sclerosis. Here, we demonstrate that it compares favorably with DMF and its other derivatives, such as Diroximel, in the zebrafish, microglia, and lymphocyte models.
