Referral Patterns and Diagnostic Timeliness in Pediatric Cancer: A Hospital‐Based Study in Indonesia

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Timely diagnosis and treatment are critical for improving survival among children with cancer. In low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs), delays are common and may be influenced by fragmented referral pathways and diagnostic limitations.

Weak Edge Target Segmentation Network Based on Dual Attention Mechanism

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Segmentation of weak edge targets such as glass and plastic poses a challenge in the field of target segmentation. The detection process is susceptible to background interference and various external factors due to the transparent nature of these ...

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

Dynamic Feature Fusion for Semantic Edge Detection [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the Twenty-Eighth International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, 2019
Features from multiple scales can greatly benefit the semantic edge detection task if they are well fused. However, the prevalent semantic edge detection methods apply a fixed weight fusion strategy where images with different semantics are forced to share the same weights, resulting in universal fusion weights for all images and locations regardless ...

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Nano-power mixed-signal tunable edge-detection circuit for pixel-level processing in next generation vision systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A useful nano-power circuit is presented for edge detection in integrated vision systems. Based on a compact front-end of only five MOS devices, this circuit features a tunable threshold and discrete output and is ideal for interfacing to digital ...

Biophysical approaches for studying viral entry

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Viruses infect all living organisms and have been responsible for major epidemics and pandemics. Their ongoing evolutionary battle with host defenses creates a constant need for improved tools to study viral behavior. Advancing methods to probe viral attachment, fusion, and genome release deepen our understanding of how infections begin and support the

An Autoadaptive Edge-Detection Algorithm for Flame and Fire Image Processing [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The determination of flame or fire edges is the process of identifying a boundary between the area where there is thermochemical reaction and those without. It is a precursor to image-based flame monitoring, early fire detection, fire evaluation, and the
