Simulation and Experimental Study on the Effect of Edge Radius on the Cutting Condition of Carbide Inserts

open access: yesMachines
Carbide tools are extensively used in the automotive, aerospace, and marine industries. However, an unsuitable tool-edge treatment can affect the cutting performance of carbide tools.

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

The influence of cutting edge microgeometry on the broaching of Inconel 718 slots

open access: yesEngineering Science and Technology, an International Journal, 2023
In aero-engine production, the dovetails (firtrees) of turbine discs are manufactured by broaching. Introducing innovative micro-geometry modifications to broaching tools can significantly influence cutting force, energy consumption, tool wear, and ...

On the circumradius of a special class of n-simplices

open access: yes, 2010
An n-simplex is called circumscriptible (or edge-incentric) if there is a sphere tangent to all its n(n + 1)/2 edges. We obtain a closed formula for the radius of the circumscribed sphere of the circumscriptible n-simplex, and also prove a double ...

A bound on the spectral radius of hypergraphs with e edges

open access: yesLinear Algebra and its Applications, 2018
For $r\geq 3$, let $f_r\colon [0,\infty)\to [1,\infty)$ be the unique analytic function such that $f_r({k\choose r})={k-1\choose r-1}$ for any $k\geq r-1$. We prove that the spectral radius of an $r$-uniform hypergraph $H$ with $e$ edges is at most $f_r(e)$. The equality holds if and only if $e={k\choose r}$ for some positive integer $k$ and $H$ is the

Assessment of Skin in Patients With Systemic Sclerosis Using High‐Frequency Ultrasound and Shear Wave Elastography: A Comparative Study With Histology, Molecular, and Clinical Parameters

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Ultrasound (US) has been proposed as a potential tool for assessing skin fibrosis in systemic sclerosis (SSc). However, a large‐scale comparison of US‐based assessment with histologic markers of skin fibrosis has not been reported. We evaluated US‐based skin assessments for their face validity (differentiation between involved SSc and healthy

Hopfield Neural Networks for Online Constrained Parameter Estimation With Time‐Varying Dynamics and Disturbances

open access: yesInternational Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, EarlyView.
This paper proposes two projector‐based Hopfield neural network (HNN) estimators for online, constrained parameter estimation under time‐varying data, additive disturbances, and slowly drifting physical parameters. The first is a constraint‐aware HNN that enforces linear equalities and inequalities (via slack neurons) and continuously tracks the ...

Relaxed spanners for directed disk graphs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Let $(V,\delta)$ be a finite metric space, where $V$ is a set of $n$ points and $\delta$ is a distance function defined for these points. Assume that $(V,\delta)$ has a constant doubling dimension $d$ and assume that each point $p\in V$ has a disk of ...

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.
