Enhancing Polylactic Acid Films With Polyethylene Glycol-Based Plasticizers: A Reactive Extrusion Approach. [PDF]

open access: yesMacromol Rapid Commun
This study explores the enhancement of polylactic acid (PLA) films through reactive extrusion with polyethylene glycol (PEG)‐based plasticizers and dicumyl peroxide (DCP) as a cross‐linking agent. The process improves mechanical strength, ductility, and thermal stability while reducing plasticizer migration, broadening the potential applications of PLA

Human stability assessment and fall detection based on dynamic descriptors

open access: yesIET Image Processing, Volume 17, Issue 11, Page 3177-3195, 18 September 2023., 2023
Classic fall detection systems based on images infer fall features from datasets that do not contain real falls, so their performances could be low when facing real falls. The authors’ new approach uses the data provided by a neural network to study the human body balance.

Causes of the recent decline of a Lesser Kestrel (Falco naumanni) population under an enhanced conservation scenario

open access: yesIbis, Volume 165, Issue 2, Page 388-402, April 2023., 2023
Lesser Kestrel Falco naumanni (Fleischer, 1818) populations have been one of the best monitored bird populations in Spain over the last 70 years. These populations suffered a sharp decline between the 1950s and 1990s. Since then, periodic censuses showed a population increase that lasted until the 2010s.

Traces of some weighted function spaces and related non‐standard real interpolation of Besov spaces

open access: yesMathematische Nachrichten, Volume 295, Issue 9, Page 1669-1689, September 2022., 2022
Abstract We study traces of weighted Triebel–Lizorkin spaces Fp,qs(Rn,w)$F^s_{p,q}(\mathbb {R}^n,w)$ on hyperplanes Rn−k$\mathbb {R}^{n-k}$, where the weight is of Muckenhoupt type. We concentrate on the example weight wα(x)=|xn|α$w_\alpha (x) = {\big\vert x_n\big\vert }^\alpha$ when |xn|≤1$\big\vert x_n\big\vert \le 1$, x∈Rn$x\in \mathbb {R}^n$, and ...

Thermodynamic cycles for solar thermal power plants: A review

open access: yesWIREs Energy and Environment, Volume 11, Issue 2, March/April 2022., 2022
Conventional and advanced thermodynamic cycles to produce electricity in solar thermal power plants. Abstract Solar thermal power plants for electricity production include, at least, two main systems: the solar field and the power block. Regarding this last one, the particular thermodynamic cycle layout and the working fluid employed, have a decisive ...

Climate and species stress resistance modulate the higher survival of large seedlings in forest restorations worldwide

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 31, Issue 6, September 2021., 2021
Abstract Seedling planting plays a key role in active forest restoration and regeneration of managed stands. Plant attributes at outplanting can determine tree seedling survival and consequently early success of forest plantations. Although many studies show that large seedlings of the same age within a species have higher survival than small ones ...

Bilayer films of poly(ε‐caprolactone) electrosprayed with gum rosin microspheres: Processing and characterization

open access: yesPolymers for Advanced Technologies, Volume 32, Issue 9, Page 3770-3781, September 2021., 2021
Bilayer systems, consisting of electrosprayed gum rosin microspheres (eGR) and poly(ε‐caprolactone) (PCL), were prepared. First, the electrospraying processing conditions of GR in two different solvents, dichloromethane, and chloroform, were optimized.

Optimal control of harvest timing in discrete population models

open access: yesNatural Resource Modeling, Volume 34, Issue 3, August 2021., 2021
Abstract Harvest plays an important role in management decisions, from fisheries to pest control. Discrete‐time models enable us to explore the importance of timing of management decisions, including the order of events of particular actions. We derive novel mechanistic models featuring explicit within‐season harvest timing and level.

Cuerpos de cobre: Extractivismo en Chuquicamata, Chile

open access: yesThe Journal of Latin American and Caribbean Anthropology, Volume 26, Issue 2, Page 200-218, June 2021., 2021

A New Approach to the Consideration and Analysis of Critical Factors in Robotic Machining

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2020
The relative low stiffness of industrial robots is a major limitation on the development of flexible and reconfigurable systems in applications in which process forces and vibration lead into significant tool path deviations with respect to the ...
