Reference‐Guided Chromosome‐Scale Genome Assembly With Insights on Population Genomics of the Atlantic Goliath Grouper (Epinephelus itajara), Islas del Rosario, Colombia

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
We present a high‐quality chromosome‐level genome assembly and population genomic analysis of the critically endangered Goliath grouper (Epinephelus itajara) using PacBio HiFi and Illumina sequencing technologies. The 1.12 Gb genome assembly showed high contiguity and identified 22,692 protein‐coding genes, while comparative analyses revealed conserved

Controls of bulk density and grain size on Stage 1 evaporation from packed sand columns

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, Volume 25, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
Abstract Soil evaporation from the vadose zone is strongly controlled by the pore size distribution and hydraulic connectivity, both of which are altered by mechanical compaction. However, the effect of bulk density changes and its vertical distribution on Stage 1 evaporation in sandy systems remains insufficiently quantified. In this study, we combine

Characterization of the Plumbing System Beneath Askja Caldera, Iceland, Revealed by Microgravity and Deformation Data During Uplift Between 2022 and 2023

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Solid Earth, Volume 131, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract In July 2021, an episode of uplift started at Askja caldera, Iceland, following over 50 years of subsidence. The initial inflation rate was approximately 700mm/yr $700\hspace*{.5em}\mathrm{m}\mathrm{m}/\mathrm{y}\mathrm{r}$, declining to 350mm/yr $350\hspace*{.5em}\mathrm{m}\mathrm{m}/\mathrm{y}\mathrm{r}$ within 1 month.

Electron‐Driven Instabilities in Jupiter's Magnetodisc

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Space Physics, Volume 131, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Thermal electrons in Jupiter's magnetodisc have been observed to be anisotropic with higher parallel temperature compared to perpendicular. In this work, we used previously‐derived electron properties (Sarkango et al., 2025, https://doi.org/10.1029/2025gl118209) to calculate electron β‖ ${\beta }_{\Vert }$ and compared the observed anisotropy ...

North Atlantic Ocean–Atmosphere Dynamics Controlled the Hydroclimate in Western Iberia During the Holocene

open access: yesPaleoceanography and Paleoclimatology, Volume 41, Issue 9, September 2026.
Abstract Hydroclimate variability in western Iberia during the Holocene remains insufficiently resolved despite the high sensitivity of this region to the North Atlantic atmosphere and ocean dynamics. Here, we present the first source‐resolved reconstruction of centennial‐ to millennial‐scale moisture variability over the last 11,000 years using ...
