The Role of Educational Quality and Quantity in the Process of Economic Development [PDF]

open access: yes
We develop a theory of human capital investment to study the channels through which students react to school quality when deciding on investments in secondary education and above, and to study how educational quality affects economic growth. In a dynamic

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Modelling cognitive skills, ability and school quality to explain labour market earnings differentials [PDF]

open access: yes
Attempts to explain wage differences between race groups in South Africa are constrained by the fact that quality of education is known to differ greatly between groups, thus the unexplained portion of the wage gap may be much affected by such ...

Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 increases metastatic potential and aggressiveness in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aldehyde dehydrogenase 1A1 (ALDH1A1) is a cancer stem cell marker in several malignancies. We established a novel epithelial cell line from rectal adenocarcinoma with unique overexpression of this enzyme. Genetic attenuation of ALDH1A1 led to increased invasive capacity and metastatic potential, the inhibition of proliferation activity, and ultimately ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Targeted modulation of IGFL2‐AS1 reveals its translational potential in cervical adenocarcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cervical adenocarcinoma patients face worse outcomes than squamous cell carcinoma counterparts despite similar treatment. The identification of IGFL2‐AS1's differential expression provides a molecular basis for distinguishing these histotypes, paving the way for personalized therapies and improved survival in vulnerable populations globally.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.
