From framework to functionality: A cross-country analysis of PISA 2018 reading assessment framework’s item features as determinants of item difficulty

open access: yesLarge-scale Assessments in Education
Background Theoretical frameworks excel in conceptualising reading literacy, yet their value hinges on their applicability for real-world purposes, such as assessment.

DELP Treatment on Vision and Retinal Microcirculation in Patients With Acute Ischemic Stroke: Report of Five Cases and Literature Review

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background The delipid extracorporeal lipoprotein filter from plasma (DELP) treatment can effectively reduce blood lipid, increase blood flow, and improve neurological deficits in patients with acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, its effect on vision and retinal microcirculation in stroke patients has never been reported.

Measuring is more than assigning numbers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
'Measurement is fundamental to research-related activities in social science (hence this Handbook). In my own field of education research, perhaps the most discussed element of education lies in test scores.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative

The Invasion of the Christian West by the Tatars (Mongols). A Clash of Civilizations between Frederick II, Gregory IX and the Tatars [PDF]

open access: yesЗолотоордынское обозрение, 2017
Research objectives: The author of this article wants to show how the clash of two different civilizations, until then practically unaware of the other’s existence, the Tatars and the Christian West, undermined the superior and self-confident position ...

Influences on classification accuracy of exam sets: an example from vocational education and training [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Classification accuracy of single exams is well studied in the educational measurement literature. However, when making important decisions, such as certification decisions, one usually uses several exams: an exam set.

Targeting EZH2 reverses thyroid cell dedifferentiation and enhances iodide uptake in anaplastic thyroid cancer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Anaplastic thyroid cancer (ATC) lacks iodide uptake ability due to MAPK activation increasing the expression of the histone methyltransferase EZH2, which represses thyroid differentiation genes (TDGs) such as the sodium iodide symporter (NIS). Dual inhibition of MAPK (U0126) and EZH2 (EPZ6438/Tazemetostat) reverses this mechanism, thus restoring TDG ...

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Use of Full Hierarchy Consistency Index to Assess Response Consistency

open access: yesInternational Journal of Assessment Tools in Education, 2017
Measurement models need to properly delineate the real aspect of examinees’ response processes for measurement accuracy purposes. To avoid invalid inferences, fit of examinees’ response data to the model is studied through person-fit statistics.
