Historical note: The Edwards Aquifer Authority
2019ABSTRACT The Edwards Aquifer Authority (EAA) was established in 1996 after lawsuits that were filed for the protection of endangered species in Comal and San Marcos Springs revealed the need for aquifer management. Several events set the stage for water management in Texas and the creation of the EAA.

A Review of the Edwards Aquifer Precipitation Enhancement Program
The Journal of Weather Modification, 2018The organization and facilities of the Edwards Aquifer Precipitation Enhancement Project (EAPEP) is reviewed, and the resources applied in the 1999, 2000, and 2001 seasons are summarized. A preliminary evaluation of the 1999 and 2000 project seasons suggests a 24% increase in rainfall volume for floating target units of 1,964 km^2 that actually ...

Effects of urbanization on the Edwards Aquifer
2019ABSTRACT The Edwards Aquifer along the Balcones fault zone is in a rapidly growing, urbanizing area. Urbanization creates major hydrogeological impacts, generally increasing impervious cover and flooding intensity, water demands, groundwater recharge, and temperatures both above and below the land surface; covering springs and small ...

A Simulation Model to Manage the Edwards Aquifer
2003The Edwards Aquifer is located in south central Texas and serves as the sole source of water to the region, which includes the City of San Antonio. Recent declines in spring flows fed by the aquifer that water the habitat of several endangered species triggered a court ruling that led to the issuance of ground water pumping permits for the Edwards ...

Texas groundwater law and the Edwards Aquifer
2019ABSTRACT In Texas, groundwater and surface water are managed differently. Surface water is state-owned and governed by the doctrine of prior appropriation. Groundwater law is evolving and based upon a combination of court cases and legislative actions. Like soil, groundwater is property of the surface landowner.

Optimizing Groundwater Management Strategies in the Edwards Aquifer
Bridging the Gap, 2001The Edwards Aquifer is one of the most permeable and productive aquifers in the United States and serves as the sole source of water supply for more than 1.3 million people including the City of San Antonio, Texas. It is also the source of water for the two largest springs in the southwestern U.S., Comal Springs and San Marcos Springs in south-central ...

A Statistical Study of the Hydrological Character of the Edwards Aquifer
World Environmental and Water Resource Congress 2006, 2006The Edwards Aquifer is located in south-central Texas with a length of about 180 miles, and varying width from 5 to 40 miles. It is one of the most permeable and productive artesian limestone aquifers in the United States and supplies drinking water to more than 1.5 million people in San Antonio and the Austin-San Antonio corridor.

ABSTRACT The San Antonio segment of the karstic Edwards Aquifer provides an example of the impact of aggregate quarries on nitrate loads in karst aquifers. Previous published reports have not evaluated aggregate quarries as a possible cause of nitrate concentrations in the Edwards Aquifer above normal background levels and instead ...

Aquifer storage and recovery (ASR) is increasingly being used to enhance freshwater security and sustainability. Though proven technology, ASR implementation and efficiency are mainly controlled by the aquifer system's geological characteristics. Aquifer or reservoir quality, aquifer geochemistry and heterogeneity, and ASR-induced stress exerted on ...

Seismic anisotropy and vertical fractures in the Edwards aquifer
SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2004, 2004High resolution seismic data are acquired from the Edwards limestone formation in an area of outcrop within the Government Canyon State Natural Area, to infer the local orientation of vertical fracturing. The experiment consists of a single 3D seismic array of 16 3C recording stations.
