Targeted Modulation of d‐Band Center in MoS2 Interlayer With n‐Type Co/Fe Dopants Accelerating Sulfur Reaction Kinetics in Lithium‐Sulfur Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A targeted modulation of the MoS2 electronic structure is achieved via substitutional n‐type Co/Fe co‐doping. This strategy triggers S‐mediated d‐p hybridization, optimizing the binding affinity with polysulfides to establish a volcano‐shaped relationship between the d‐band center and catalytic activity.

Migration behaviour of silver eels (Anguilla anguilla) in a large estuary of Western Europe inferred from acoustic telemetry

open access: yes, 2014
International audienceDespite intensive research on eels, the behaviour of silver eels in estuaries during their migration remains poorly documented which creates serious gaps in planning the restoration of the European eel population.

Giant Orbital Rashba–Edelstein Effect in Crystalline Cu2O/Cu Heterostructures

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
An enhanced orbital Rashba–Edelstein effect is demonstrated in a crystalline Cu2O/Cu heterostructure, compared to naturally oxidized CuOx structures, highlighting the critical role of crystallinity and interface control in orbital torque generation. The resulting spin torque conductivity exceeds that of Pt, indicating the potential of orbital torque ...

Introduction to the standard reference data of electron energy loss spectra and their database: eel.geri.re.kr

open access: yesApplied Microscopy, 2019
Electron energy loss spectroscopy (EELS) is an analytical technique that can provide the structural, physical and chemical information of materials. The EELS spectra can be obtained by combining with TEM at sub-nanometer spatial resolution. However, EELS

Transient Laser‐Shocked Synthesis of Amorphous Layer‐Supported Metal Nanocrystals for Efficient Nitrate Reduction

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A general, versatile laser‐shock synthesis process is reported to produce various bimetallic CuNi, CuFe, CuCo, and medium‐entropy CuFeCoNi heterostructures, in which crystalline metal nanoparticles are anchored to amorphous hydroxide supports. During nitrate reduction reaction, the heterostructures undergo dynamic amorphous/crystalline reconstruction ...

Migratory pattern and habitat use of tropical eels Anguilla spp. (Teleostei : Anguilliformes : Anguillidae) in the Philippines, as revealed by otolith microchemistry

open access: yes, 2010
To determine the migratory pattern and habitat use of freshwater eels in the Philippines, we analyzed the strontium to calcium (Sr:Ca) ratio of their otoliths with the use of an electron probe microanalyzer (EPMA). The changes in the otolith Sr:Ca ratios

Van der Waals Chromium Telluride Thin Films Prepared by Hybrid Pulsed Laser Deposition With Tunable Magnetism

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Epitaxial Cr(1+δ)Te2 thin films were synthesized via hybrid Pulsed Laser Deposition (PLD) that combined Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) techniques with PLD. Control of the Cr intercalation, δ, enabled modulation of magnetic anisotropy, Curie temperature, and transport properties.

On the Friction and Wear Mechanisms of Electrified Steel Contacts in CO2: Unveiling the Role of Carbon‐Rich Tribofilms Under Dry Sliding Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
This study investigates friction and wear of AISI 52100 steel under dry sliding in CO2, air, and N2 atmospheres, with and without contact electrification. CO2 forms a stable carbon‐rich tribofilm that reduces friction by ∼30% and wear by ∼85%. High‐resolution TEM, EELS, and molecular dynamics reveal pressure‐dependent lubrication mechanisms, showing ...

Three-dimensional movement of silver-phase American eels in the forebay of a small hydroelectric facility

open access: yes, 2009
Declines in the population of the American eel, Anguilla rostrata, alongthe northwestern Atlantic have stimulated resource managers to consider the impactof hydroelectric facilities on silver-phase eels as they migrate downstream to thesea.
