A luminal EF-hand mutation in STIM1 in mice causes the clinical hallmarks of tubular aggregate myopathy

open access: yesDisease Models & Mechanisms, 2019
STIM and ORAI proteins play a fundamental role in calcium signaling, allowing for calcium influx through the plasma membrane upon depletion of intracellular stores, in a process known as store-operated Ca2+ entry.

Progress Toward Efficient Wide‐Gap Cu(In,Ga)(S,Se)2 Thin‐Film Solar Cells

open access: yesProgress in Photovoltaics: Research and Applications, EarlyView.
Wide‐gap Cu (In,Ga)(S,Se)2 thin‐film solar cells are studied in view of their performance, limitations, and opportunities for further optimization. Different sources of open circuit voltage limitations were discussed and weighted. Interface recombination appears the main recombination channel, which however can be influenced heavy alkali treatment ...

Evolutionary-Conserved Allosteric Properties of Three Neuronal Calcium Sensor Proteins

open access: yesFrontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, 2019
Neuronal Calcium Sensors (NCS) are highly conserved proteins specifically expressed in neurons. Calcium (Ca2+)-binding to their EF-hand motifs results in a conformational change, which is crucial for the recognition of a specific target and the ...

FinTech and Environmental Sustainability: Evidence From Brazil

open access: yesSustainable Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study explores the dynamic interplay between economic growth and environmental sustainability from a FinTech perspective, using Brazil as a case study. While FinTech's contribution to green transformation, sustainable finance, and resource efficiency has gained increasing attention, a notable lack of empirical research remains to assess ...

Nanopore Electroporation: A New Delivery Method Within the Field of Epigenetic Editing

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Nanopore‐mediated electroporation was used to deliver a CRISPRi system to clonal β‐cells. This enabled targeted downregulation of insulin expression while maintaining high cell viability. ABSTRACT Epigenetic modifications influence gene expression and contribute to type 2 diabetes (T2D), but establishing causality requires targeted modulation of ...

Peptide Charge Modulates Ion Binding to EF-Hand Motifs: A Molecular Dynamics Study

open access: yes
Rare earth elements (REEs), particularly lanthanides (Ln), are of significant interest due to their critical roles in modern technology and medicine. However, their extraction, isolation, and purification remain challenging. Lanmodulin (LanM), a recently discovered EF-hand protein, exhibits high affinity and selectivity for binding Ln3+ ions.

Fronting in Old Catalan: Asymmetries between Narration and Reported Speech1

open access: yesTransactions of the Philological Society, Volume 123, Issue 1, Page 1-28, March 2025.
Abstract This article explores the distribution, syntax, and information structure of XVS clauses in the narrative text and the reported speech of a thirteenth‐century Old Catalan chronicle, the Llibre dels Fets. It is shown that XVS occurs mainly within reported speech and in embedded clauses.
