Effective diffusion coefficient including the Marangoni effect [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2018
Surface-active molecules supplied from a particle fixed at the water surface create a spatial gradient of the molecule concentration, resulting in Marangoni convection. Convective flow transports the molecules far from the particle, enhancing diffusion.

Establishing Accuracy of Watershed-Derived Pore Network Extraction for Characterizing In-Plane Effective Diffusivity in Thin Porous Layers

open access: yesJournal of the Electrochemical Society, 2019
The work presented in this paper reports a versatile and customizable watershed-based pore network extraction tool. It was used to build pore networks from microscale computed tomography images of highly porous carbon-fiber materials.

Drying of lucuma (Pouteria obovata) using the technique of Refracting WindowTM

open access: yesScientia Agropecuaria, 2014
Lucuma is a fruit that is experiencing a growing trend in commercial ground into flour for use in the food industry. This study aimed to obtain lucuma flour using the method of refractive window drying and evaluate the effect of the thickness of lucuma ...

Fast Models for Predicting Pollutant Dispersion inside Urban Canopies

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2023
A fast pollutant dispersion model for urban canopies is developed by coupling mean wind profiles to a parameterisation of turbulent diffusion and solving the time-dependent advection–diffusion equation.

Effective diffusivity of microswimmers in a crowded environment. [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Physics, 2018
The microalga Chlamydomonas Reinhardtii is used here as a model system to study the effect of complex environments on the swimming of micro-organisms. Its motion can be modeled by a run and tumble mechanism so that it describes a persistent random walk ...

Drying kinetics of crushed mass of ‘jambu’: Effective diffusivity and activation energy

open access: yesRevista Brasileira de Engenharia Agrícola e Ambiental - Agriambi, 2018
The aim of this paper was to analyze the drying kinetics, test the Akaike information criterion (AIC) and Schwarz’s Bayesian information criterion (BIC) in the selection of models, determine the effective diffusivity and activation energy of the crushed ...

Effective diffusivity of sulfuric acid in Antarctic ice cores [PDF]

open access: yesClimate of the Past
Deposition of sulfuric acid in ice cores is important both for understanding past volcanic activity and for synchronizing ice core timescales. Sulfuric acid has a low eutectic point, so it can potentially exist in liquid at grain boundaries and veins ...

DRYING KINETICS OF PEANUT KERNELS IN THIN LAYERS [PDF]

open access: yesEngenharia Agrícola, 2017
: The aim of this study was to adjust mathematical models to the experimental data on the peanut kernels drying in thin layer, as well as to determine the effective diffusion coefficient and the main thermodynamic properties involved in drying of the ...

Effective diffusions with intertwined structures

open access: yesMatemática Contemporânea, 2023
Let p:N->M be a surjective map of smooth manifolds. We are concerned with singular perturbation problems associated to a pair of second order positive definite differential operators with no zero order terms, that are intertwined by p. We discuss the associated random perturbations of stochastic differential equations and present a number of ...
