Effective Discharge Area of Nonequilibrium DC Discharges

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 2008
Intensified charge-coupled device images are used to determine an effective discharge area in low-pressure DC discharges. We show radial emission profiles for all typical regimes of low-pressure discharge - dark Townsend discharge, constricted normal glow, and abnormal glow discharge.

The effects of a ‘discharge time-out’ on the quality of hospital discharge summaries

BMJ Quality & Safety, 2012
Background High-quality discharge summaries are a key component of a safe transition in care. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of standardised feedback and a ‘discharge time-out’ (DTO) on the quality of discharge summaries. Methods

Effective discharge planning – timely assignment of an estimated date of discharge

Australian Health Review, 2011
Objective. To examine the implementation of estimated date of discharge (EDD) for planned admissions and admissions via the emergency department, to assess the variance between EDD and the actual date of discharge (ADD), and to explore the determinants of delayed discharge in a tertiary referral centre, Sydney ...

Effect of Arc Discharge Pressure on Discharge Current in EDM

Key Engineering Materials, 2008
In electrical discharge machining (EDM), an electrical discharge occurs between a tool electrode and a work-piece, and removal of materials is carried out by vaporized explosion between the electrode and the work-piece. However, the mechanism of material removal in EDM is not well understood.

Effective Discharge Planning And The Neurosurgical Nurse

Journal of Neuroscience Nursing, 1984
Discharge planning is a complex collaborative process that begins with the admission of a patient and culminates with a smooth discharge to another care facility or home. The process is designed to ensure quality of care and cost containment. However, the goals of discharge planning can only be realized if health care professionals involved in the ...

IMPEDIMENTS TO THE COURSE AND EFFECTIVENESS OF DISCHARGE PLANNING

Social Work in Health Care, 1978
This paper examines the proposition that "timing" (of referral) is a crucial element in determining the effectiveness of the discharge planning process. A brief review of the relevant literature is followed by the description of a study undertaken to assess the impact that various impediments had upon discharge planning practice in two matched ward ...

Effect of corona discharge on liquid dielectrics

Electrical Engineering, 1939
1. A test cell suitable for use in bombardment studies on oils was developed. 2. Pure liquid paraffin, various cable oils, and ten hydrocarbons of known tupe molecular structure were studied, and it was found that a number of their characteristicsare changed by corona discharge. 3. The power factor of all samples increased with bombardment. 4.

Kinetic Effects in Hall Thruster Discharge

42nd AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2006
Recent analytical studies and particle-in-cell simulations suggested that the electron velocity distribution function in E×B discharge of annular geometry Hall thrusters is non-Maxwellian and anisotropic. The average kinetic energy of electron motion in the direction parallel to the thruster channel walls (across the magnetic field) is several times ...

Effective Discharge Communication in the Emergency Department

Annals of Emergency Medicine, 2012
Communication at discharge is an important part of high-quality emergency department (ED) care. This review describes the existing literature on patient understanding and implementation of discharge instructions, discusses previous interventions aimed at improving the discharge process, and recommends best practices and future research.

Neuromuscular Effects of Stun Device Discharges

Journal of Surgical Research, 2007
Stun guns or electromuscular incapacitation devices (EMIs) generate between 25,000 and 250,000 V and can be discharged continuously for as long as 5 to 10 min. In the United States, over 200,000 individuals have been exposed to discharges from the most common type of device used.
